Lamb strikes out four to key split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored twice in the fourth inning of game one to earn a doubleheader split with Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Sunday.

The Green Terror (17-13, 7-5 CC) took the opener 3-1 before the Mules (12-18, 5-5 CC) continued its trend of splitting each conference twinbill, 7-2.

Valerie Lamb (Miami Gardens, Fla./Miramar) went the distance in the circle to pick up her sixth win of the year in game one for McDaniel.

Amie DeFeo led Muhlenberg with a 4-for-6 doubleheader.

In game one, Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) doubled with two outs in the bottom of the first before a fielding error allowed her to score for a 1-0 lead.

With one out in the fourth, Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) beat out an infield single before Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) drew a walk to put runners at first and second.

Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) roped her second double of the game to left, scoring both runners for a 3-0 lead.

Nicole Iannarone led off the top of the sixth with a home run to left center for Muhlenberg's lone run of the game.

Fletcher finished game one 3-for-3 in the opener.

In the nightcap, DeFeo singled with one out in the top of the first before Taylor Trifiolis blasted a two-run shot to straightaway center field for a 2-0 lead.

With the bases loaded and two outs after a pair of fielder's choices at the plate, Hishon rocketed a ball back that deflected off the pitcher and she slid into first to beat the throw and score Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) to cut the deficit to 2-1.

A Kipe infield single and throwing error put a runner at second to lead off the home third.

With one out, Fletcher reached on an infield single and Kipe rounded third, scoring the tying run.

Keyed by back-to-back two-run doubles by Karissa Astrella and Amelia Shelley, the Mules plated four runs in the top of the fifth to go back in front, 6-2.

Hanna Caiola led off the seventh inning with a double in the gap before moving to third on a groundout and scoring on a Shelley RBI groundout.

McDaniel returns to action at York (Pa.) on Monday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
