Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel rapped out 32 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Shenandoah in non-conference softball action on Tuesday.
The Green Terror (16-10) took the opener 10-5 before scoring 11 runs in its final two at bats to win game two 13-5 in six innings.
Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) led the hit parade, going 8-for-9 with a double and a walk in the twinbill. She was 5-for-5 in the opener to tie the program record for hits in a single game.
Kimberly Brady led the Hornets (8-20) with three hits and three runs scored.
In game one, Miller led off the bottom of the first with a rocket off the third-baseman for her first hit of the game before stealing second.
Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) drew a walk before Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) singled through the right side to load the bases.
Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley), who was 4-for-4 in game one, dropped a single into center to score Miller before a fielder's choice scored Lewis and put runners at the corners.
Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) singled home Kipe before the Shenandoah outfield threw out its first of three runners at the plate to keep it a 3-0 game.
A one-out Miller single and Kipe two-out walk put two runners on for Weisser, who singled home Miller for a 4-0 lead.
A Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) walk loaded the bases for Deichman, who singled back up the middle to plate Kipe.
Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) drew a four-pitch, bases-loaded walk to stretch the lead to 6-0.
Miller roped her third single in as many innings with one out in the third before she was thrown out trying to steal second.
Singles from Lewis and Kipe and a Weisser double pushed the advantage to 8-0 after three innings.
Kristen Weadon singled with one out in the fourth before Megan Wilk hit a two-out home run to right field to trim the deficit to 8-2.
Deichman responded with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the frame.
The Hornets plated two runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to close to within 9-4.
In the home sixth, Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) drew a one-out walk before two-out singles by Miller and Lewis made it a 10-4 game.
Karli Rorabaugh hit a one-out home run in the top of the seventh for the final margin.
Deichman added three hits and three RBIs while Lewis and Kipe had two hits each. Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) went the distance, striking out a career-best nine.
A Brady single, sacrifice, passed ball and two-out error staked Shenandoah to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two.
The Green Terror responded in the bottom of the third when Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) drew a walk to lead off the inning. Miller followed with a ringing double to left field to score Galati and even the game at 1-all.
Galati beat out a two-out infield single before Miller and Lewis walked to load the bases. A Kipe single through the right side plated Galati for a 2-1 edge.
A Brady two-out home run in the top of the fifth retied the game before McDaniel broke out the bats, rapping out nine hits over the next 20 batters to step to the plate.
Hishon drew a one-out walk in the fifth before Deichman and Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) each singled for a 3-2 edge.
A fielding error allowed Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) to reach and score Deichman for a 4-2 lead.
Galati roped a single through the left side, scoring Wagner from third before a Lewis two-out single and Kipe double off the fence stretched the lead to 8-2.
Three singles and a Courtney Topper two-out, two-run double that fell in the gap closed the margin to 8-5.
Hishon once again started things in the bottom of the sixth, reaching when the Hornets dropped a line drive before a Deichman single put runners at first and second.
A popup fell in on the right side but Shenandoah recovered in time for the force at third and the first out.
A Scardina single loaded the bases and Fletcher came up as a pinch hitter and she was hit by the pitch to force in Deichman.
A Miller single scored Aviles, who was in as a pinch-runner, and Lewis and Kipe each drew bases-loaded walk to make it a 12-6 game.
Hishon laced a two-out, two-strike single up the middle, scoring Miller for the game-ending run.
In addition to Miller's three-hit game, Kipe, Deichman, Wagner and Galati each had two hits.
Alex Herschman (Laurel, Md./Atholton) picked up her second win in as many outings and first as a starter after capturing her first collegiate win in relief on Sunday.
McDaniel returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
