Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – McDaniel seven runs in its final two at bats to forge a split on the team's final day at the Rebel Spring Games in softball action on Monday.
The Green Terror (3-7) dropped its second straight extra-inning game to open the day, falling to No. 16 Wheaton (Mass.) 5-4 in eight innings. McDaniel rallied to top Springfield in the second game, 10-6.
Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led the Green Terror in game two, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
The Pride (3-1) jumped on the board early, scoring twice in the top of the first inning.
Mackenzie Navarro led off with an infield single but was erased on a fielder's choice.
Jenna Webb followed with a double to left center that scored Melissa Nelson before a throwing error allowed Webb to make it a 2-0 game.
Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) dropped a one-out single into left field in the home third before a Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) lined a double to deep left to cut the deficit in half.
Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) poked a single through the left side, scoring Lewis to tie the game.
Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) followed with a double to left to score Kipe from second for a 3-2 edge.
A Kayla Padroff leadoff double in the fifth keyed a three-run frame that put Springfield back in front, 5-3.
McDaniel, however, batted around in the bottom of the frame to score five times.
Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford), Lewis and Kipe all roped consecutive singles to draw McDaniel within 5-4.
After Weisser walked to load the bases, Hishon drove a two-run single to left to turn the one-run deficit into a one-run lead.
With two outs, Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) laced a single up the middle to score Hishon and Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) to make it an 8-5 game.
Miller led off the sixth with a walk before stealing second and scoring on a Kipe single up the middle.
A Hishon double plated Kipe to push the lead to 10-5 before a dropped fly ball in the top of the seventh set the final margin.
Kipe added three hits in the game. Valerie Lamb (Miami Gardens, Fla./Miramar) picked up the win in the circle, striking out three in four innings. Alex Herschman (Laurel, Md./Atholton) fanned two in the final two innings for her first save of the year.
In the opener against the Lyons (3-2), Caroline Fairbanks drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the seventh inning before scoring on a Kelly Welch double with two outs to tie the game at 4-all.
A walk, infield single and ball back up the middle scored the winning run in the eighth inning.
Emma Hart led off the third with a bunt single before stealing both second and third and scoring on a Marissa Timoteo one-out single to stake Wheaton to a 1-0 lead.
The Green Terror batted around in the fifth, scoring four times to take the lead.
Hishon drew a walk to lead off the inning before an error and fielder's choice made it first and second with one out.
Lewis drove a ball up the middle to load the bases before Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) singled to right field, knotting the game at 1-all.
Singles from Miller and Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) gave the Green Terror a 3-1 lead before Weisser drew a bases-loaded, two-out walk for a 4-1 lead.
A Hart leadoff home run and back-to-back walks set the table for a two-run bottom of the frame.
McDaniel opens play at The Spring Games on Wednesday in Clermont, Fla. The Green Terror plays New England College at 11 a.m. and Bowdoin at 1 p.m.
