Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – McDaniel scored 10 runs in its second game for a run-rule victory, earning a split on its first day at the Rebel Spring Games in softball action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (1-5) dropped a 3-0 decision to Rhodes in the first game of the day before bouncing back to top Skidmore 10-2 in five innings.
Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) led McDaniel, rapping three hits and driving in two runs.
Lauren Fortunato led the Thoroughbreds (1-1) with a hit, driving in both runs.
After Jill Strileckis walked and Cassie Fishkin singled, Mackenzie Whiting walked to load the bases with two outs in the top of the second.
Fortunato dropped a popup in just over the second-base bag to score two.
Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the frame before a strikeout gave Skidmore two outs.
Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) laced a ball that went through the legs of the second baseman to put runners at first and second.
Miller followed with a shallow fly ball that could not be caught, tying the game and opening the floodgates.
After she stole second, Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) doubled to the gap to give the Green Terror a one-run lead.
Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) followed with a single up the middle to plate Kipe for a 4-2 lead.
Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) beat out an infield single to lead off the third before stealing second.
A fielding error allowed Lewis to reach and put runners at the corners for Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach), whose sacrifice fly made it a 5-2 game.
Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led off the fifth with a single through the left side before Deichman doubled off the fence in left-center to make it a 6-2 game.
A fielder's choice put runners at the corners before Jessica Hardy (Cambridge, Md./North Dorchester) roped a pinch-hit single to the gap to score Deichman.
Singles from Justice and Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) stretched the lead to 9-2 before Cricket Lowe (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) pinch hit and sent a ball to deep left for a game-ending sacrifice fly.
Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) struck out seven in game two to pick up her first collegiate win in the circle.
Against the Lynx (16-4), Kendall Henry doubled through the right side with two outs in the bottom of the first before scoring on a Rachel Pewitt popup up the middle that was just out of the reach.
Christine Hume beat out a one-out bunt single in the third before a hit batter and walk loaded the bases. A fielding error allowed Hume to score and double the lead.
A Jill Healy one-out home run set the final margin in the fifth.
The Green Terror returns to action against Lesley and Ramapo on Sunday. The first game against Lesley begins at 11:15 a.m. while the Ramapo game is scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m.
