Box Score CARY, N.C. – William Peace jumped out to a 6-0 lead en route to a 15-8 victory over McDaniel in non-conference softball action on Saturday.
Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led the Green Terror (0-2) with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
Shay Poteat led the Pacers (8-4) with a 3-for-5 day that included five RBIs and a home run.
With the bases loaded and two out in the top of the first, Poteat singled up the middle and Kacy Haithcock followed with a two-run double to stake William Peace to a 3-0 lead.
An inning later, Lindsey Wiggins jacked a one-out home run to left field to make it a 4-0 game.
Caroline Womble followed with a single and Brittany Propri doubled to put runners and second and third.
Morgan Farmer followed with a single to center that plated both runners and extend the lead to 6-0.
Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) doubled with one out in the bottom of the inning before Deichman reached on a fielder's choice and Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) walked to load the bases.
A Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) sacrifice fly plated Hishon before an error allowed Deichman to score and make it a 6-2 game.
Fletcher scored off a Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) single and miscue in the outfield to cut the Pacer lead to 6-3.
Four singles and a Wiggins double in the fourth pushed the lead back to six before Deichman led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to right to make it a 9-4 game.
A one-out single from Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) followed by a Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) home run to left-center trimmed the deficit to 9-6.
Hishon drew a walk and Deichman doubled to force a pitching change. After Fletcher was hit by a pitch, William Peace was able to get a pair of fly balls to work out of the bases-loaded jam.
A Haithcock double scored Poteat to get one of those runs back in the top of sixth.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, McDaniel drew four straight walks before Fletcher was hit by a pitch for the second inning in a row to cut the deficit to 10-8. The Green Terror, however, once again left the bases loaded.
Poteat poked a three-run shot to center field to cap a five-run seventh and extend the lead to 15-8.
William Peace finished with a 17 hits while McDaniel had nine in a game that lasted until well after midnight.
The Green Terror concludes its trip to the Grand Slam Triangle Classic against Meredith and Roanoke on Sunday. The first game begins at 10 a.m.
