SALISBURY, Md. – A two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning provided Salisbury insurance in a 4-0 victory over McDaniel in the opening game of the 2015 NCAA Division III softball regional at Salisbury on Friday.
Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led the Green Terror (29-11) with the squad's only hit of the game.
Rachel Johnson led the fourth-ranked Sea Gulls (31-6) to a win in their first game of the regional with 14 strikeouts in the circle.
Paige Knussman and Annah Brittingham drew back-to-back walks to lead off the sixth inning in a scoreless game.
After a sacrifice moved both runners up a base, McDaniel got a lineup before a two-out throwing error allowed both runners to score for a 2-0 lead.
Kim Dorsey led off the seventh inning with a single up the middle before Knussman turned on a one-out pitch and sent it over the left-center fence to double the advantage.
With the loss, McDaniel will now need a win in its second game of the day against No. 13 Virginia Wesleyan to continue playing on Saturday. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
