Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – For the second straight day, McDaniel reached double-digit hits. For the second straight day, it resulted in a run-rule victory for the Green Terror. McDaniel topped Gettysburg 10-1 in six innings on the second day of the 2015 Centennial Conference (CC) softball tournament on Saturday.
With the victory, the Green Terror (28-10) moved directly into Sunday's championship game and will need just one win to secure its seventh CC title. The Bullets (30-13) will be the opponent at noon on Sunday after dispatching Haverford 8-4 in the final elimination game on Saturday. Gettysburg would need to defeat McDaniel twice on Sunday to hoist its fourth trophy.
Tayler Hishon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led Saturday's hit parade for the Green Terror with a 3-for-4 day, adding three RBIs. McDaniel finished the game with 14 hits – a day after rapping out 15.
Five different Bullets recorded single hits on the day while Wendy Folfas added the team's sole RBI.
Playing as the visitors on its home field, Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) led off with a single before moving to second on a Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) sacrifice.
Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester) followed with a single off the first-base bag to score Maring for a 1-0 lead.
Melissa Tighe drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the inning before Jamie Abell singled. After a Steph Zengel single loaded the bases, Folfas drew a walk to force in Tighe and tie the game.
Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) worked out of further damage with the first two of her eight strikeouts.
Maring led off the top of the third with a single up the middle before Lewis dropped a ball into right field to put runners at first and second.
A Kipe sacrifice moved both runners into scoring position before Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) singled to score Maring and put runners at the corners.
Hishon was called on for a suicide squeeze and got the bunt down successfully to score Lewis and reach first safely on the single before a wild throw put Weisser at third and Hishon at second.
With one out, Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) singled home Weisser and an errant throw allowed Hishon to also score for a 5-1 lead.
With one out in the fifth, Weisser and Hishon both singled before Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) roped a double into the left-field corner to score Weisser for a 6-1 lead.
After Hishon scored on a wild pitch, Fletcher walked to put runners at the corners for Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach), who poked a single through the left side for a n 8-1 advantage.
Lewis led off the sixth with a single before Kipe drew a four-pitch walk. After a groundout moved both runners up, Hishon sliced a ball to right field that tailed into the corner for a double and a 10-1 lead.
In addition to Hishon's three-hit day, Maring, Lewis, Weisser and Justice had two hits each.
