Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel rapped out 21 hits to record a doubleheader sweep of York (Pa.) in non-conference softball action on Thursday.
The Green Terror (24-10) nabbed the opener 9-0 in six innings before completing the sweep, 5-1.
Tayler Hishon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led McDaniel with four hits in the twinbill, including a home run in each contest.
Ashley Werner led the Spartans (21-17) with their only two hits of the opener.
Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) walked to lead off the bottom of the first before Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) singled to put runners at first and second.
After a fielder's choice and lineout, a dropped line drive allowed Maring to score for a 1-0 lead.
Lewis led off the fifth inning, pulling a single through the hole in the right side before a Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) singled through the left side with one out.
Hishon followed with her second home run of the season, clearing the right-field fence for a 4-0 lead.
Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the sixth before a Maring single up the middle put runners at first and second.
Lewis single to center field to score Galati.
With runners at second and third, Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) doubled off the fence in right field to clear the bases and make it a 7-0 game.
Weisser followed with a home run to right field to end the game.
Lewis finished game one with three hits while Maring, Weisser and Hishon had two each.
Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) fanned nine in the opener, allowing just the two base runners.
A one-out Hishon single through the left side and a Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) double to the gap staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second of game two.
Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) led off the third with a drive to center field before moving to second on a sacrifice.
Lewis and Kipe followed with two-out doubles for a 3-0 lead.
A Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) double and Aviles RBI infield single stretched the lead to 4-0 in the fourth.
An error, sacrifice and groundout plated an unearned run in the top of the sixth for York.
With one out in the bottom of the frame, Hishon sent a full-count pitch over the center-field fence for a 5-1 lead.
After the Spartans got the second out of the inning, Valerie Lamb (Miami Gardens, Fla./Miramar) worked around a leadoff walk to pick up her third win of the season in the circle.
Hishon and Aviles had two hits apiece in the nightcap.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on Saturdday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
