Box Score 2 OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson jumped out to early leads in both games to record a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in non-conference softball action on Wednesday.
The Mustangs (15-16) took game one 5-0 before completing the sweep with an 8-6 victory in the nightcap.
Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the Green Terror (22-10) with three hits in the twinbill, including her second home run of the season.
Kristen Muller led Stevenson with five hits, three RBIs and five runs scored.
Muller led off the bottom of the first in the opener with a double to left field before stealing third and scoring on a Kate Finnen single for a 1-0 lead.
With one out in the fifth, Muller added a second double. Muller took third on a wild pitch before scoring on a Kaitlyn Sager two-out single for a 2-0 lead.
A sacrifice fly and Muller two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth set the final margin.
Tied at 5-all in game two, Muller hit her second home run of the day with one out before Laura Welch drew a walk.
A two-out error put runners at first and second before Molly Hoyt reached on an infield single to load the bases.
Jasmyn Ogletree followed with a two-run single to put the Mustangs back in front, 7-5.
A dropped fly ball at the wall allowed Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) to reach second before scoring on a Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) bloop single just inside the left-field line to cut the deficit to one.
Three straight singles from Finnen, Hoyt and Olgetree plated an insurance run for Stevenson before Briana Pichalski stranded the tying runs in scoring position in the top of the seventh to pick up her first save of the season.
Muller led off the home first with a single before taking second on an error and third on a wild pitch and later scoring on a Welch sacrifice fly.
Singles from Finnen, Hoyt and Olgetree doubled the lead later in the frame.
Weisser led off the top of the second with a home run to cut the deficit in half.
An Olgetree two-run single stretched the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third.
Kipe led off the fourth inning with a home run to spark a four-run frame.
Weisser followed with a single through the left side before Lewis was hit by a pitch.
A groundout and out at the plate gave the Mustangs two outs before Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) drove a ball to center field, plating Lewis. The ball got the backstop allowing Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) to also score with the tying run.
A Tayler Hishon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) single to right field scored Aviles for a 5-4 edge.
Kipe, Weisser, Lewis and Hishon all had two hits in game two.
McDaniel returns to action at home against York (Pa.) on Thursday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3:30 p.m.
