Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. – McDaniel pounded out 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Thursday.
The Green Terror (12-6, 4-0 CC) took the opener 8-0 in six innings before completing the sweep with a 14-6 victory.
Four McDaniel players had four or more hits in the twinbill, including a 4-for-4 performance from Tayler Hishon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) in game two for the Green Terror's first four-hit game of the season.
Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) and Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) rapped out five hits each in the twinbill. Weisser, the reigning CC Player of the Week, also threw 4 1/3 innings of game two to pick up the win in the circle.
Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) went the distance in game one and tossed the last two innings of game two, allowing just two hits and striking out 12 over the eight innings to give her 1,206 career strikeouts and become just the fifth Division III pitcher to reach that milestone.
Chelsea Matzko led the Garnet (4-8, 0-4 CC) with three hits on the afternoon.
With two outs, Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) doubled before scoring on a Weisser infield single. A walk and error made it a 2-0 game.
Maring led off the fifth inning with a bunt single before Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) and Miller each singled to load the bases.
A Weisser sacrifice fly made it a 3-0 game before Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) singled home Lewis with two outs for a 4-0 lead.
Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) doubled to lead off the sixth before one-out singles from Maring and Lewis coupled with an error pushed the lead to 6-0.
With two outs, Weisser singled. After an error stretched the lead to 7-0, Fletcher singled home Weisser to put the Green Terror in position for its third run-rule victory in conference play this season.
Brehm posted her fourth 1-2-3 inning of the game, including ending the game with her eighth strikeout to close the deal.
Maring had three hits in the opener while Lewis, Miller, Weisser and Fletcher all had two.
Maring led off the game two with a single before moving to third on a Miller sacrifice bunt and scoring on a Weisser triple to right field.
Back-to-back doubles from Hishon and Fletcher stretched the lead to 3-0.
Lewis drew a walk to lead off the third before Hishon and Fletcher each walked with two outs to load the bases.
An Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) two-run single and Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) RBI knock made it a 6-0 game.
Weiser singled with two outs in the fourth before scoring on a Hishon double down the line. Fletcher followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 8-0.
Laurie Sellars singled with one out in the bottom of the fourth to break up the Weisser perfect game.
Matzko and Sara Planthaber each followed with singles to load the bases before four more singles in a row led to a five-run frame.
The Green Terror responded with four runs of its own in the top of the fifth keyed by two-run singles from Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) and Hishon.
A Sellars double and RBI knock from Planthaber made it a 12-6 game in the bottom of the fifth.
Weisser and Hishon led off the seventh with back-to-back singles before a walk and consecutive RBI groundouts by Kipe and Justice set the final margin.
Weiser finished with three hits in game two while Maring, Fletcher and Justice added two each.
McDaniel returns to action at Muhlenberg on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
