Box Score 2 HAVERFORD, Pa. – McDaniel built a 4-0 lead in game two to forge a doubleheader split at Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Sunday.
After the Fords (22-7, 11-3 CC) rallied to take a 2-1 victory in the opener, the Green Terror (22-8, 12-2 CC) captured game two, 6-2.
Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) rapped out four hits in the twinbill for McDaniel, which lowered its magic number to one to host the conference tournament. The Green Terror will need one win in its CC finale at home next Saturday against Washington or one loss by Haverford to Gettysburg to secure the top seed.
Sarah Brody notched four of the 11 hits for Haverford.
Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) was hit by a pitch to lead off the second inning before Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) sent a double to the right-field wall to put runners at second and third.
After Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) drew a one-out walk, Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) drove a single to center field to score Fletcher and Kipe for a 2-0 lead.
Weisser singled to lead off the third before a Kipe two-out double pushed the lead to 3-0. Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) followed with a single just inside the left-field line to make it a 4-0 game.
A Julie Garlick walk and Lauren Touey double to lead off the fifth broke up the shutout.
Jessica Koshinski followed with a single to put runners at the corners before being thrown out trying to steal second.
Brody made it three straight hits, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Maring led off the sixth with a single before moving to second on a Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) sacrifice.
A throwing error allowed Maring to score from second and Linsdey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) to safely reach first.
Weisser followed with a triple to the warning track in right field, scoring Miller for a 6-2 lead.
Maring and Weisser each had three hits in game two while Kipe had a pair of doubles.
In the opener, Miller drew a two-out walk in the first inning before Weisser followed with a single.
Tayler Hishon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and Fletcher were each hit by pitches to force in Miller before Sarah Tauriello got a groundball to work out of the bases-loaded jam with just the one run surrendered.
Dayle Comerford singled to lead off the sixth before Kristin Tatum was hit by a pitch. Jill Schnall followed with a double to the gap to give the host a 2-1 lead, which held for a playoff-clinching win.
Justice had two hits to lead McDaniel in the opener.
Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) finished the day with 15 strikeouts, including nine in the opener. The 15 Ks now gives her 1,308 for her career to become just the third NCAA Division III pitcher to eclipse 1,300 career strikeouts.
McDaniel returns to action at Stevenson on Wednesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
