Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. – McDaniel posted its third and fourth consecutive shutouts to record a doubleheader sweep of Bridgewater in non-conference softball action on Wednesday.
The Green Terror (19-7) took the opener 6-0 behind a 14-strikeout, two-hit shutout by Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) before completing the sweep 10-0 in five innings.
Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the offense with four hits on the day, including two doubles and her first collegiate home run.
Briana Cox led the Eagles (9-23) with two of her team's four hits in game two.
Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) drew a walk to lead off the game before moving to second on a sacrifice and scoring on a Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) double.
A two-out error and Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) single stretched the lead to 2-0.
Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) led off the second with a double before scoring on a Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) two-out single.
Kipe singled to lead off the fourth before Aviles drew a walk and a Megan Moore (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) sacrifice moved both runners up a base.
A Maring RBI groundout plated Kipe for a 4-0 advantage.
Deichman walked with two outs in the fifth before Kipe doubled and Aviles drove in both runners with a single for a 6-0 lead.
Brehm allowed just five baserunners with the season-best strikeout total to improve to 14-5 on the year in the circle.
Miller and Aviles joined Kipe with two hits each.
With one out in the top of the first inning of the nightcap, Lewis doubled to left field before scoring on a Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) two-out double.
Tayler Hishon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) followed with a double of her own to make it 2-0 before Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) drew a walk.
Kipe followed with a double to score both runners before taking third on a wild pitch.
Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) followed with an RBI single before moving to third on a Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) single and scoring on a wild pitch for a 6-0 lead after one-half inning.
Miller led off the second inning with a home run before Weisser singled, stole second and scored on an error for an 8-0 advantage.
Kelci Rines (Frankfort, Del./Sussex Tech)led off the fifth inning with her first collegiate hit and Kipe followed with her first collegiate home run for the 10-0 lead.
Weisser, Alex Herschman (Laurel, Md./Atholton) and Valerie Lamb (Miami Gardens, Fla./Miramar) combined for a four-hit shutout. Weisser picked up her third win in the circle after pitching three innings to go with her two hits offensively.
McDaniel returns to action at Gettysburg on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
