Box Score MONT ALTO, Pa. – Penn State-Mont Alto got a triple and took advantage of a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat McDaniel 6-5 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday.
Tyler Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) led the Green Terror (5-5) with two hits and two RBIs – one of five players with two-hit games.
Alex Cline went 4-for-5 to lead the Lions (2-8), who matched McDaniel with 12 hits on the afternoon.
Knotted at 5-all with one out in the bottom of the 10th, Brady Griest roped a triple to the gap in left-center before scoring the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
With runners at second and third after a Cline double in the third, Matt Clark blasted a two-out triple to deep center to stake Mont Alto to a 2-0 lead.
A Cline single and Chris Torres double in the fifth stretched the lead to 3-0.
Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) led off the top of the sixth with a single before Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) each followed with singles to make it a 3-1 game.
After a fielder's choice put runners at the corners, Gilbert laced a two-run double to even the game at 3-all.
Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) added a two-out single to score Gilbert for a 4-3 edge.
Doubles from Jonathan Furness and Cline combined with a Clark RBI groundout gave the hosts a 5-4 advantage in the bottom of the seventh.
Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led off the top of the eighth with a single before a Kasey Nelson (Denton, Md./St. Michael's) single and Bahr walk loaded the bases with one out.
Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) followed with a sacrifice fly to once again draw the Green Terror even.
Sivo, Windisch, Bahr and Rosanova each added two-hit days for McDaniel.
The Green Terror returns to action in the home opener against Messiah on Wednesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
