Maring notches four hits in split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – McDaniel jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game two to forge a split at the Dot Richardson Spring Games in non-conference softball action on Thursday.

The Green Terror (8-4) dropped a 6-3 decision to The College of New Jersey to open the day before rebounding to defeat Wis.-River Falls 7-2 in the nightcap.

Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) recorded four in the twinbill, notching a pair of hits in each game.

Against the Falcons (8-8), Maring poked a single through the left side to lead off the game before stealing second. Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) followed with a walk before Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) blasted a triple to the wall in right-center for a 2-0 lead.

Scardina led off the third inning with a walk before stealing second. After a Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) single up the middle but runners at the corners, Weisser drove in Scardina with an RBI groundout for a 3-0 lead.

Back-to-back singles from Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) and Megan Liebknecht (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) put two runners on.

A Maring single to the gap scored Kipe and moved pinch-runner Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) to third.

The Green Terror successfully executed a double steal to stretch the lead to 5-0 before Scardina drove in Maring with a single to center.

Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) added an RBI single to make it a 7-0 game.

An Abbie Morris double and walk to Kaitlyn Lepine put two runners on to lead off the bottom of the fourth.

A Michelle LaCasse double to deep left field scored both runners to set the final margin.

In the opener, the Lions (7-3) used a one-out walk by Madison Levine and Deanna Utter two-out double to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Lewis drew a walk of her own to lead off the home half of the frame before Maring was hit by a pitch.

A throwing error allowed Lewis to score with two out to tie the game.

Steph Vuono led off the second with a single up the middle before moving to second on a sacrifice.

A walk and bunt single loaded the bases for Bria Bartsch, who dropped a ball into shallow center field that turned into a fielder's choice but scored a run.

A Colleen Phelan double keyed a two-run third inning that pushed the lead to 4-1 while Ashtin Helmer went to work in the circle, retiring 13 straight McDaniel hitters.

College of New Jersey tacked on two runs in the top of the seventh with a Vuono two-run single up the middle.

Carly Diechman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) singled to lead off the bottom of the inning before a dropped pop up with one out put runners on first and second.

A Maring two-out single up the middle scored both runners to set the final margin.

The Green Terror concludes its 12-game Florida trip against Stevenson and SUNY Geneseo on Friday. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
