Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – McDaniel posted a shutout in the nightcap to forge a split in its first day at the Dot Richardson Spring Game in non-conference softball action on Wednesday.
The Green Terror (7-3) dropped a 5-3, eight-inning game to Anderson in the opener before topping Benedictine 5-0 in game two.
Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) recorded five hits in the doubleheader, posting a pair of hits in game one before going 3-for-4 in the nightcap.
In a scoreless game against the Eagles (4-4), Miller roped a double with one out in the top of the fourth inning.
After a popout, Megan Liebknecht (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) poked a single through the left side to score Miller for a 1-0 lead.
Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) led off the top of the seventh with a single to right before an error on the ensuing sacrifice attempt put two runners on base.
Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) won a 10-pitch at bat, reaching on a single up the middle to load the bases.
After a flyout, a second fielding error in the inning allowed Aviles and pinch-runner Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) to score for a 3-0 lead.
A throwing error allowed Lewis to score from third before Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) drove in Tayler Hishon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) with a single to left field.
Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) finished off the complete-game shutout with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh. She finished with five strikeouts and allowed just two hits and four total baserunners.
Lewis and Aviles had two hits each.
Trailing 2-1 against the Ravens (7-1), Miller drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning.
After a stolen bases, one-out walk and wild pitch moved runners to second and third, a fielding error allowed Miller to score with the tying run.
With a runner placed on second in the top of the eighth, Samantha Steele drew a walk before the Shelby Shaffer dropped down the sacrifice.
A Morgan Burke single into center gave Anderson a 3-2 edge. A Taylor Kelso two-out, two-run single just passed a diving infielder stretched the lead to 5-2.
A Hishon single through the right side plated Carly Diechman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) in the bottom of the frame but the Green Terror stranded the final two of their 14 runners left on base.
McDaniel struck first with back-to-back two-out walks to Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) and Hishon in the bottom of the third.
Miller followed with a bloop single to left to score Maring from second.
Regan Sharp singled to lead off the top of the fourth before Kelso ripped an RBI double to tie the game.
A sacrifice and Samantha Ausmus infield single made it a 2-1 game.
Brehm finsiehd with six strikeouts in the eight innings of work while Hishon and Miller had two hits each.
The Green Terror returns to action against TCNJ and Wis.-River Falls on Thursday. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
