Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – McDaniel scored four runs in the first inning to key a split at the Rebel Spring Games in softball action on Sunday.
The Green Terror (5-1) took the opener 12-0 over Centenary (N.J.) in five innings to give head coach Phil Smith his 200th career win. In the nightcap, Skidmore jumped out to a 5-0 lead before holding on for a 5-2 win over McDaniel.
Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) led the Green Terror with six hits, rapping out three base knocks in each game, including a pair of doubles in the opener.
Against the Cyclones (0-2), Lewis led off with a single up the middle before a one-out Tayler Hishon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) singled through the left side.
A Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) followed with a single to load the bases before Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) singled to drive in a pair of runs.
Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) was hit by a pitch to reload the bases before a fielder's choice at the plate accounted for the second out.
Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) followed with a two-run double up the middle.
Lewis was hit by a pitch to lead off the second before stealing second.
After a wild pitch and walk, Hishon singled to drive in Lewis. Hishon later scored on another wild pitch for a 6-0 lead.
A one-out bunt single by Megan Moore (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) coupled with a stolen base and Lewis double put runners at second and third in the third.
A Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 7-0.
Megan Liebknecht (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) doubled as a pinch-hitter to lead off the fourth before three straight singles pushed the lead to 9-0.
A Lewis double and Aviles two-run single set the final margin with two outs.
Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) struck out nine in a two-hit shutout. Hishon and Miller each had two hits – part of a 15-hit attack in which each starter had at least one hit.
In game two, the Thoroughbreds (1-1) got singles from Dani DeGregory and Lauren Fortunato around a sacrifice for a 1-0 lead.
Mackenzie Whiting followed with a double to make it a 2-0 game.
With one out in the second, Lizette Roman-Johnston and DeGregory singled before a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third.
A Fortunato infield single, two passed balls and a hit batter coupled with a Cassie Fishkin single made it a 5-0 game.
Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) singled with one out in the bottom of the third before scoring on a Lewis single two batters later.
After McDaniel loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth but could not score, Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) led off the seventh with an infield single.
Lewis followed with a single before a groundout and wild pitch set the final margin.
Brehm added another eight strikeouts in four innings of relief work in game two. Kipe added a 3-for-3 showing in the nightcap while Maring had two hits.
The Green Terror returns to action against Messiah and Springfield on Monday. The first game begins at 10 a.m.
