Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg scored 35 straight points to break open a 10-all game en route to a 45-17 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.
Matt Cathey (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial Regional) led the Green Terror (0-5, 0-4 CC), establishing a career best with 88 yards rushing to go with his second collegiate touchdown.
Kyle Wigley led the Bullets (5-0, 4-0 CC) with 184 yards rushing and two scores.
Trailing 10-3, Tayahd Campbell (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) caught a swing pass on second-and-8 from the Gettysburg 45 and took it down the far sideline for a touchdown. Spencer Wiersberg's (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) extra point knotted the game at 10-all with 2:41 to play in the first half.
Two plays later, Wigley broke a 60-yard run up the middle to put the visitors back on top.
The Bullets received the second half kickoff and Sam McDermott engineered a 10-play drive that ended in a 21-pass to a wide-open Kevin McCarthy for a 24-10 lead with 11:48 showing.
A Paul Lowry four-yard run capped another nine-play drive for a 31-10 lead just over four minutes later.
An eight-play, 73-yard drive made it 38-10 early in the fourth quarter when Jordan Kelso caught a pass in the corner of the end zone.
A second short score from Lowry cashed in a short field midway through the final period.
McDaniel responded with a 13-play drive that finished with Cathey running around the left end for a nine-yard touchdown.
The Bullets took their first possession inside the McDaniel 5 but the Green Terror limited Gettysburg to a 21-yard Robby Fay field goal for a 3-0 lead with 9:03 showing in the first quarter.
Wigley scored his first touchdown nearly five minutes later from seven yards out.
Mike Casper (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) made it a 10-3 game at the end of the first quarter, hitting a 35-yard field goal.
Mike Oliveto (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) finished with 101 yards for his fourth career 100-yard receiving game. Matty Callahan (Germantown, Md./Northwest) threw for 230 yards.
Luke Fernandez (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) made 11 tackles, including his first collegiate sack. Claude-Michel Richardson (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) led the defense with 13 tackles.
The Green Terror takes next week off before returning to action at home against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, Oct. 17. Game time is 1 p.m.
