Brehm fans 19 in split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – McDaniel did not allow an earned run in a split of two games at the Dot Richardson Spring Games in softball action on Wednesday.

The Green Terror (6-2) took its first game 5-0 over Rutgers-Camden before Frostburg took advantage of four errors to notch a 4-3 victory.

Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) led McDaniel, fanning 19 batters and allowing just five hits over 14 innings of work.

Brittany Scott matched Brehm for the Scarlet Raptors (4-3) with seven strikeouts in the circle.

Allison Williams provided what proved to be the game-winning double for the Bobcats (5-2), driving in two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Against Rutgers-Camden, Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) led off the top of the second inning with a single before Sam Stitely (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) followed with a single of her own to put runners at first and second.

Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauqier) was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Emily Sneeringer (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford), whose RBI groundout plated Liebowitz for a 1-0 lead.

Back-to-back doubles from Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) and Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) stretched the lead to 2-0 before a groundout and Liebowitz sacrifice fly allowed Galati to score for a 3-0 lead.

Liebowitz reached on catcher's interference to lead off the sixth inning before taking second on a wild pitch. After giving way to pinch-runner Megan Moore (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional), a ground out and Sneeringer RBI single through the left side made it a 4-0 game.

Sidney led off the seventh with a triple before scoring on a two-out throwing error to set the final margin.

Galati finished game one with three hits.

Against Frostburg, a fielding error allowed Taylor Bevins to reach third base to lead off the third inning before a one-out walk to Caitlin Lovend put runners at the corners.

A Renay Aubel sacrifice fly scored Blevins before Hannah Tavik dropped a ball just inside the right-field line for a triple and 2-0 lead.

Sidney poked a one-out ball through the left side before moving to second on a sacrifice and scoring on a Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) bloop single to right to cut the deficit in half.

A two-out throwing error followed by a walk and the Williams double to deep left pushed the lead to 4-1 in the sixth.

Lauren Stricker (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) led off the bottom of the frame with a double off the center field fence before Sneeringer was hit by a pitch.

Fletcher, coming to the plate as a pinch-hitter, was also hit by a pitch to load the bases.

After a popout, Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) roped a double into the left-field corner to draw McDaniel within one but a groundout and flyout ended the threat.

After Frostburg went in order in the top of the seventh, Maring led off with a double and pinch-runner Laura Mertz (Gillette, N.J./Watchung Hills) moved to third on a sacrifice but, once again, a groundout and flyout left the tying run stranded 60 feet away.

Maring finished with three hits in game two.

McDaniel returns to action against Hope and Bethany (W.Va.) on Thursday morning. The Green Terror takes on the Flying Dutch at 8 a.m. followed by the Bison at 10 a.m. McDaniel then returns to the field to cap a tripleheader against Messiah at 8 p.m.
