SWARTHMORE, Pa. – McDaniel exploded for 10 runs in the fourth and fifth innings of game two to salvage a doubleheader split at Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Tuesday.

After the Garnet (12-8, 1-5 CC) took game one 7-0, the Green Terror (12-10, 1-3 CC) responded with a 14-2, five-inning victory to notch its first conference win of the season.

Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) led McDaniel with four hits over the twinbill – one of three players to amass three or more hits on the day.

Kate Smayda led Swarthmore with four hits of her own.

After Smayda reached on an infield single in the bottom of the first, Jesslyn Lammerts sacrificed her to second before a two-out error staked the Garnet to a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) reached on an error to lead off the inning.

After a wild pitch, an error allowed Stacey Armacost (Glenville, Pa./South Western) to reach second and Maring to score to knot the game at 1-all.

Emily Sneeringer (Hanover, Pa./South Western) was hit by a two-out pitch before an Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) RBI single gave McDaniel the lead.

Sidney followed with an RBI double to score Sneeringer for a 3-1 lead.

A Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) leadoff single and two-out error stretched the lead to 4-1 in the third.

With one out in the fourth, Galati reached on an infield single before Sidney followed with a single down the right-field line to put runners at the corners.

An Amy Baumgardner (Hanover, Pa./South Western) walk loaded the bases.

A two-out error allowed Maring to reach and Galati to score before a Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) two-run double stretched the lead to 7-1.

Armacost followed with a three-run home run to cap the six-run inning.

A two-out error allowed Sidney to reach in the fifth and, once again, the Green Terror capitalized.

Sidney, who was on third after the outfield error, scored on a Baumgardner single before Davis drew a walk and Maring followed with a three-run dinger.

An error, wild pitch and Danielle Seltzer RBI single in the bottom of the fifth set the final margin.

In game one, Smayda led off the bottom of the first with a double before taking third on a sacrifice bunt and scoring on a Nicole Aaron RBI groundout.

A Lamerts one-out single and Seltzer two-out home run stretched the lead to 3-0 in the third.

Singles from Suness Jones and Erin Curtis coupled with a double steal put two on with two out in the fourth for Smayda, who singled home both runners for a 5-0 lead.

Singles from Aaron and Rose Pitkin put runners at the corners before a double steal stretched the lead to 6-0.

A Jones two-out double scored Pitkin for the final margin.

Armacost and Galati had three hits on the day while Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./South Western) pitched all 12 innings with 11 strikeouts.

The Green Terror returns to action at Muhlenberg on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
