WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall took advantage of three hit batters in the sixth inning of game one to key a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.

The Diplomats (6-12, 2-4 CC) overcame a 1-0 deficit in the opener to win 3-1 before taking game two, 7-2.

Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) led the Green Terror (11-9, 0-2 CC) with four hits in the twinbill.

Kailtin Zampino pitched 12 innings for Franklin & Marshall, scattering 10 hits and striking out four to pick up the win in both games.

Trailing 1-0, Caitlin Brust was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the sixth inning. After pinch-runner Sarah Kirk moved to second on a sacrifice, a fielder's choice put Ashley Hartshorn at first with two outs.

A pair of hit batsman around a Malorie Sassaman single, including Julianne Whitleigh with the bases loaded, knotted the game at 1-all.

A Zampino two-run double provided the difference, giving the pitcher her second win of the season in the circle.

Singles from Stacey Armacost (Glenville, Pa./South Western) and Amy Baumgardner (Hanover, Pa./South Western) around an error staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.

In game two, singles from Hartshorn and Sassaman around a groundout staked the Diplomats to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

A two-out double from Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) followed by a Davis triple and obstruction call at the plate knotted the game at 1-all.

Four errors over the next two innings led to four unearned runs and a 5-1 advantage after three innings.

In the second inning, an error coupled with a hit batter and fielder's choice put runners at first and second with two outs before Rachel Laufer and Brust stole third and second, respectively.

Danielle Murphy followed with a two-run double for a 3-1 lead.

Back-to-back errors before a two-out Nicole Casey double made it a 5-1 game in the third.

Franklin & Marshall tacked on two runs in the fourth courtesy of a Whitleigh RBI single and a passed ball to push the lead to 7-1.

Davis and Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) led off the bottom of the frame with singles before an error put runners at the corners.

A Sam Stitely (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) sacrifice fly plated Davis for the final run of the afternoon.

Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) fanned 20 batters in 11 innings of work.

The Green Terror returns to action at Swarthmore on Tuesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
