Sidney records four hits

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – McDaniel rapped out 22 hits in a doubleheader split at the 2013 Rebel Spring Games in non-conference softball action on Monday.

The Green Terror (7-5) opened the day with a 6-4 win over Springfield before falling to Anderson (Ind.) 8-2 in the second game of the day.

Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) recorded five hits in the twinbill while Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg), the reigning Centennial Conference (CC) Player of the Week, had four.

Kelly Blake led the Pride (1-3) with two hits, an RBI and two runs scored in the opener.

Amy Wuestefeld paced the Ravens (4-2) with a 2-for-3 day, adding an RBI and two runs scored in game two.

Blake recorded a two-out double before scoring on an error for a 1-0 lead.

Sidney led off the bottom of the frame with a single before stealing second and taking third on a Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) single and scoring on a Davis base knock to tie the game.

A two-out single from Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) started a second-inning rally.

Stacey Armacost (Glenville, Pa./South Western) followed with a single to put runners at second and third before Sidney doubled home Blohm for a 2-1 lead.

Sam Stitely (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) followed with a two-run single to push the advantage to 4-1.

Ally Rivelli's two-out double followed by error cut the deficit to 4-2 and extended the inning. After Jenna Webb drew a walk, Breann Joyce singled to score Blake, making it a 4-3 game.

Davis led off the bottom of the frame with a single before Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) reached on a fielder's choice. A two-out single from Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) scored Maring before Fletcher came home on a Blohm single for a 6-3 advantage.

A Samantha Rentz leadoff single and two-out error cut the deficit to 6-4 in the fourth but neither team would mount a significant threat the rest of the way.

Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford), the reigning CC Pitcher of the Week, recorded nine strikeouts in the contest to improve to 6-2 in the circle.

In the nightcap, Katie Lee drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the first for Anderson. After a Wuestefeld single, Natalie Moorhouse was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

With one out, Megan Ream singled home Lee and Wuestefeld for a 2-0 lead. Singles from Sami Frazier and Lys Hess scored Moorhouse and Ream, respectively, to stretch the lead to 4-0.

A Wuestefeld walk, error and Yardley Collett sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 5-0 an inning later.

Sidney led off the visitor third with a double before scoring on an error to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Three straight singles from Hess, Katy Ogden and Nichole Frazier pushed the lead back to five in the bottom of the inning.

A Davis doubled plated Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central), who singled two batters earlier, to make it a 6-2 game in the top of the fifth.

A passed ball on a strikeout coupled with a stolen base and two sacrifices scored Katie McCool in the bottom of the inning.

After Lee was hit by a pitch, two wild pitches and a Wuestefeld RBI single set the final margin.

The Green Terror returns to action against Rowan and Augsburg on Wednesday. The game with Rowan starts at 9 a.m. with the game against Augsburg to follow at 11 a.m.
