Brehm twirls another no-no

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WESTMINSTER, Md. - On Saturday, freshman Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) threw her first collegiate no-hitter. On Sunday, she twirled her first seven-inning no-no, keying a McDaniel doubleheader sweep of Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Sunday.

The Green Terror (14-6, 6-0 CC) took the opener 5-0 before rallying in the bottom of the seventh to win game two, 3-2.

Dayle Comerford had one of the five hits for the Fords (9-8-1, 1-5 CC) in game two, rapping a double.

After the first four McDaniel batters went down in order, Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cordozo) singled to center field before Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) followed with a single of her own but Liebowitz was out at third, allowing Davis to take second.

Sam Stitely (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) drew a two-out walk before back-to-back errors loaded the bases and allowed Davis to score for a 1-0 lead.

Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) followed with a single to plate Stitely and Lauren Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) for a 3-0 advantage.

Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) led off the sixth with a double before giving way to pinch-runner Amy Baumgardner (Hanover, Pa./South Western), who scored two batters later on a Davis home run that set the final margin.

Brehm struck out the final two batters of the game to match her own program record of 16 strikeouts in a game against just three walks.

In the nightcap, the Green Terror needed three seventh-inning runs to rally from a 2-0 deficit and stay undefeated in CC play.

Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) led off the inning with a single before an error in the outfield allowed Stitely to reach, putting runners at second and third.

Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Sidney drove in pinch-runner Baumgardner to cut the deficit in half.

Pinch-hitter Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) drew a bases-loaded walk to force home Megan Moore (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional), who was pinch running for Stitely.

With one out, Warrenfeltz singled home Fusco to give McDaniel the win.

Jill Schnall drew a walk to leadoff the inning before taking second on a groundout.

With two outs, Comerford doubled to plate Schall before scoring from third on a Stephanie Wolfson single one batter later for the team's only two runs of the day.

Brehm pitched the final 2 2/3 innings with six strikeouts to improve to 10-4 on the season.

The Green Terror returns to action at Swarthmore on Tuesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
