Box Score 2 MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – McDaniel pitchers tossed a pair of shutouts to sweep Penn State-Harrisburg in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Thursday.
The Green Terror (8-6) took the opener 3-0 before plating nine runs in the fourth inning of game two to key a 10-0, five-inning victory.
Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) paced McDaniel with two hits in each game.
Katherine Bernardi led the Lions (4-12) with two hits in game one while Emily Pae was 2-for-2 in the nightcap.
Lauren Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) drew a walk to lead off the third inning before scoring on a Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) triple one batter later.
A wild pitch plated Sidney for a 2-0 lead.
A Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) single followed by singles from Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) and Jaclyn Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cordozo) stretched the lead to 3-0 in the sixth.
Liebowitz and Megan Moore (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) matched Davis with two hits.
Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) recorded another 14 strikeouts to improve to 4-4 on the season and raise her K total to 113 on the year.
In the nightcap, Sidney drew a walk to lead off the game before stealing second and advancing to third on a groundout. She scored on a one-out throwing error to stake McDaniel to a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, Davis led off with a single before taking second on a groundout.
Warrenfeltz followed with a single and took second on the throw to put runners at second and third before Sam Stitely (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) walked to load the bases.
Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) followed with a double to score Davis and Warrenfeltz for a 3-0 lead.
A Stacey Armacost (Glenville, Pa./South Western) single reloaded the bases for Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), who roped a triple to clear the bases and double the lead.
A throwing error allowed her to score while Sidney reached on the fielder's choice and took second on the error.
An Amy Baumgardner (Hanover, Pa./South Western) single scored Sidney for a 8-0 lead.
Another Davis single and an error loaded the bases for pinch-hitter Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer), who drew a walk to force in Baumgardner.
Stitely followed with a single to score Davis and set the final margin.
Warrenfeltz went the distance in the circle, striking out three to improve to 3-1.
McDaniel opens the home and Centennial Conference schedule in a doubleheader against Haverford on Saturday. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
