McDaniel splits pair of extra-inning affairs with Franklin & Marshall

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Jaclyn Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cordozo) went a combined 4-for-7 with four RBIs, including the game-winning double in game one, to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader split with Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Sunday.

The Green Terror (8-12, 3-3 CC) took the first game 4-3 in eight innings before the Diplomats (15-7, 2-2 CC) took advantage of the international tiebreaker rule in the nightcap, winning 7-5 in 10 innings.

Samantha Denoville and Megan Pauley led Franklin & Marshall with a combined four hits apiece.

Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) added four hits and four runs scored score in the two games for McDaniel.

Tied at 3-all with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) and Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) drew a consecutive walks before Liebowitz followed with a double through the right side to score Blohm with the game-winning run.

Danielle Murphy was hit by a pitch to lead off the game before a muffed throw and RBI from Julie Jefferson staked the Diplomats to a 1-0 lead.

A Beans single and Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) walk put runners at first and second with no outs in the bottom of the fourth.

An Elfert sacrifice moved both runners up for Liebowtz, who singled in Beans to knot the game.

With two outs, Sara Erlichman (Bedford, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) helped her own cause, singling to center to score Warrenfeltz and Liebowitz for a 3-1 advantage.

A two-out single by Pauley and Murphy home run evened the game in the top of the sixth.

Erlichman pitched all eight innings with four strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Nicole Casey was placed on second base in the top of the 10th and Amanda Schellaci sacrificed her to third.

A Pauley bunt back to the pitcher scored Casey with the go-ahead run before she was able to score on a Jefferson sacrifice fly.

A Murphy double and Malorie Sassaman RBI single once again staked the visitors to a 1-0 lead in the first.

Beth Ann Fusco led off the home third with a double before advancing to third on a flyout and scoring on an errant throw.

Beans followed with a single before Warrenfeltz reached on an error. With two outs, Liebowitz doubled both home for a 3-1 lead.

A Schellaci sacrifice fly and Pauley RBI double got both runs back in the next half-inning.

Singles from Beans and Warrenfeltz in the home fifth coupled with an intentional walk to Liebowitz loaded the bases for Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg), whose sacrifice fly scored Beans for a 4-3 lead.

A dropped fly ball with two outs in the top of the seventh allowed Allie McQuaide to score with the tying run.

Denoville led off the ninth with a home run before singles from Beans and Warrenfeltz evened the score once again in the bottom of the inning.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Tuesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
