McDaniel takes nightcap 10-2 to earn split with Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Jaclyn Liebowtz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cordozo) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader split at Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.

The Fords (5-11, 2-2 CC) took the opener 5-1 before the Green Terror (6-10, 1-1 CC) bounced back to win game two 10-2 in six innings.

Marina Zambrotta led Haverford with a combined 3-for-4 showing in the twinbill.

In the nightcap, Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) led off the second inning with a single before advancing to second on a wild pitch.

Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) followed with a single of her own and stole second to put runners at second and third with one out.

A Sara Erlichman (Bedford, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) double to the gap staked McDaniel to a 2-0 lead.

Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) drew a one-out walk in the third and stole second before scoring on a Liebowitz single.

Two batters later, Wildasin singled home Liebowitz for a 4-0 advantage.

An Erlichman single and walks by Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) and Elfert loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fourth.

Liebowitz singled home Erlichman and Beans to push the lead to 6-0.

A Zambrotta walk and Brittany Stevenson double put runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the frame.

Elizabeth Newman and Candice Smith singled home Zambrotta and Stevenson, respectively, to trim the deficit to 6-2.

Two-run home runs from Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) and Davis in the sixth gave the Green Terror an eight-run advantage and Erlichman pitched around a two-out single to end the game in six innings.

Beans and Liebowitz had singles and runs scored in the inning.

A Newman leadoff single and Jen DiCandilo one-out home run staked Haverford to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one.

Smith led off the second with a single before giving way to pinch-runner Jordan Nieusma.

A sacrifice bunt and popout put Nieusma at second with two outs before an error prolonged inning.

Back-to-back RBI singles from Beth Davis and DiCandilo doubled the lead.

Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and Leigh Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) reached on consecutive singles before a Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) sacrifice put the runners at second and third.

A two-out error allowed Fusco to score to trim the deficit to 4-1.

A Laura Iwanyk triple and error three batters later re-established the four-run lead.

The Green Terror returns to action in a doubleheader at home against Dickinson on Tuesday. The first game of the twinbill begins at 3 p.m.
