McDaniel opens Florida trip with two one-run wins

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) went a combined 3-for-7 with two runs scored and two RBIs to lead McDaniel to a two-game non-conference softball sweep in its first day the Rebel Spring Games on Sunday.

The Green Terror (3-1) opened the trip with a 7-6 victory over Skidmore in eight innings before downing St. Benedict, 3-2.

After the Thoroughbreds (0-3) were unable to take advantage of the international tiebreaker, going in order in the top of the eighth, Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) laid down a bunt single that put runners at the corners in the bottom of the frame.

An intentional walk to Jaclyn Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cordozo) followed by a flyout loaded the bases with one out. Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) followed with a single to score Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) with the winning run.

After unearned run in the top of the first, McDaniel took advantage of an error to lead off the home first, two walks and hit batter to respond with four tallies.

Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) had the big blow in the frame with a two-run, two-out single.

A two-out error and wild pitch closed the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the second.

With two outs in the home third, Leigh Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) was hit by a pitch before scoring on a Beans RBI double for a 5-3 advantage.

Back-to-back sinlges by Caitlin Ketcham and Cara Crofts keyed a three-run sixth that gave Skidmore a 6-5 advantage.

A walk to Warrenfeltz, sacrifice bunt with an error and Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) sacrifice fly evened the game in the home sixth.

Ashley Meister (Vienna, Va./James Madison) went the distance for McDaniel, striking out six.

In the nightcap, the Blazers (0-1) took advantage of errors in the first and second to take a 2-0 lead with a single run in both frames.

A walk to Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) and error put two runners on in the top of the sixth.

With one out, Beans and Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) each drove in a run to tie the game before an Elfert two-out RBI single gave the Green Terror the lead and the victory.

Kaitlyn Vadenais (North Smithfield, R.I./North Smithfield) went the distance, striking out four with no walks.
