Bullets hand McDaniel pair of losses in conference finale
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Beth McCullough struck
out seven batters and scattered five hits in a shutout in the
nightcap of Gettysburg's doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in
Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.
The Bullets (21-12-1, 11-5 CC) responded from two runs by the
Green Terror (15-23, 5-11 CC) in the bottom of the fifth in game
one with three runs in the top of the sixth for a 3-2 win before
taking game two, 4-0.
Catrina DelGais rapped out four hits for
Gettysburg in the pair of wins.
Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent
Pallotti) had three hits to pace McDaniel.
In game one, Lauren Toomey (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville
Area) led off the home fifth with a double before Fusco
bounced a ball up the middle to score Toomey for a 10 lead.
After Fusco stole third, Megan Elfert (Finksburg,
Md./Westminster) dropped down a suicide squeeze bunt and
Fusco beat the throw to the plate for a 2-0 advantage.
With one out in the top of the sixth, Megan
Lott doubled into the left-field corner and
Adrienne Rahs followed with a walk to put runners
at first and second.
A Sarah Woodbury single through the left side
loaded the bases before DelGais put a ball in the same plaace to
score Lott.
Kara Kempski followed with a single to shallow
left to tie the game at 2-all before a Sam Bader
RBI groundout gave the Bullets the lead.
Lanie Parr allowed just one baserunner in the
final two innings for her 12th win of the season in the circle.
In game two, the Bullets tallied single runs in the first,
third, fourth and fifth for the sweep.
In the first inning, Lott drilled a ball over the fence in left
for a one-out, solo home run.
Two innings later, singles from Joy Hallfors
and Rahs doubled the advantage.
It was a DelGais single, error and Caitlin Bay
RBI groundout that pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth before Lott
went yard for the second time, blasting a leadoff shot off the
scoreboard in the fifth.
The Green Terror concludes the season in a doubleheader at Hood
on Monday. The first game of the twinbill begins at 3:30 p.m.
