Green Terror downs Franklin & Marshall 17-9 in halted game
two for first conference sweep
LANCASTER, Pa. – Jordan Beans (Hanover,
Pa./Hanover) went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs
scored to lead McDaniel to a 17-9 victory over Franklin &
Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on
Friday.
After the second game of Thursday's doubleheader was
halted in with two on and two outs in the top of the fifth inning
due to darkness, the Green Terror (15-21, 5-9 CC) and the Diplomats
(9-17, 2-12 CC) completed the contest on Friday, giving Beans the
final two of her hits – the second time this season a
McDaniel player has recorded five hits in a single game.
Julianne Whiteleigh capped off her 3-for-3 day
for Franklin & Marshall with a double in the sixth inning.
Trailing 3-1 after the first inning on Thursday, Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and
Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) put
together back-to-back infield singles to lead off the second.
After a sacrifice bunt, a Megan Elfert (Finksburg,
Md./Westminster) singled scored Fusco before a Beans
double tied the game at 3-all.
With two on, Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River
North [N.J.]) ripped the second of her two-double outing
– part of a four-hit day for the freshman to clear the bases
for a 5-3 lead.
An Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg,
Md./Middletown) two-run home run to left center stretched
the lead to 7-3.
Doubles from Brittany Jarboe (Baltimore, Md./Seton
Keough), Beans and Warrenfeltz keyed a four-run third that
stretched the lead to 11-3.
Jarboe drew a two-out walk in the fourth before stealing second
and taking third and home on passed balls to stretch the lead to
12-3.
Kelly Marchisio led off the bottom of the
fourth with a double before Amanda Schellaci and
Danielle Murphy drew back-to-back walks to load
the bases.
Five singles by the next six batters pulled the hosts within
12-8 before Blohm led off the fifth with her first collegiate home
run.
A walk and Fusco single pushed the lead to 14-8 before Wildasin
drew a walk to put runners at the corners with two outs.
At that point, the umpires halted the game due to darkness.
Upon the resumption of play on Friday, Wildasin stole second and
Jarboe walked to load the bases before a popup ended the
threat.
A Murphy single and two-out error made it 14-9 in the bottom of
the inning but Beans scored in the top of the sixth to reestablish
a six-run advantage.
Lauren Toomey (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville
Area), who had three hits in Thursday's opener but
was hitless to that point in game two, led off the seventh with a
single – the 101st hit of her career and scored on a Fusco
triple one batter later.
An RBI groundout stretched the lead to 16-9 before Beans doubled
home Jarboe for a 17-9 lead.
The Green Terror returns to action in a doubleheader at home
against Gettysburg on Saturday. The first game of the twinbill
begins at 1 p.m.
