Green Terror poised for sweep of Franklin & Marshall when
game two halted
LANCASTER, Pa. – Erinne
Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) went 3-for-3
and pitched all nine innings to earn the win for McDaniel, which
downed Franklin & Marshall 7-6 in the first game of a
Centennial Conference (CC) softball doubleheader on Thursday.
The Green Terror (14-21, 4-9 CC) won the 2-hour, 34-minute
opener in nine innings, forcing a late start in game two. McDaniel
built an 11-3 lead over the first three innings of the nightcap and
held a 14-8 advantage with two on and two outs in the top of the
fifth inning when the game was halted due to darkness.
According to NCAA rules, a game must reach five innings to be
considered official. The two teams are awaiting a decision from the
conference office to determine if the game must be played to its
conclusion. If it is deemed the game will not be completed, all
statistics from the contest are nullified. Included in that game is
a 4-for-4, three-run, three-RBI performance from Lindsey Blohm (Bel
Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]), including the
freshman's first collegiate home run.
Danielle Murphy led the Diplomats (9-16, 2-11
CC) with a two hits, two RBIs and a run scored in game one.
Trailing 6-5 entering the top of the seventh inning, Lauren
Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) drew a walk before
advancing the other three bases on three passed balls. The Green
Terror stranded the bases loaded before Warrenfeltz retired
Franklin & Marshall in order to force extra innings.
A Hope Battista
(Crofton, Md./South River) single up the middle with one
out in the top of the eighth accounted for the only baserunner in
the eighth.
After Megan Elfert
(Finksburg, Md./Westminster) drew a lead off walk,
Jordan
Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) replaced her at first on
a bunt.
Lauren Fusco
(Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) reached on a single
before a Warrenfeltz double plated Beans for the lead and then
retired the side in order for the victory.
Singles from Beans and Warrenfeltz in the first staked the Green
Terror to an early 1-0 lead before a Beth Ann Fusco
(Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) two-run single with the
bases loaded in the third stretched the lead to 3-0.
A Caitlin Elfino RBI single and Alyssa
Yackle's triple in the bottom of the inning evened the
game at 3-all.
A Beans walk and RBI single from Warrenfeltz gave McDaniel a
one-run advantage in the fourth before a pair of errors accounted
for two unearned runs in the bottom of the frame for a 5-4
lead.
The teams exchanged runs in the sixth before the Green Terror
evened the game in the seventh.
The Green Terror returns to action in a doubleheader at home
against Gettysburg on Saturday. The first game of the twinbill
begins at 1 p.m.
