Green Terror takes game-one pitchers' duel
CARLISLE, Pa. – Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg,
Md./Middletown) threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout
in the opener of McDaniel's doubleheader split with Dickinson
in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Tuesday.
The Green Terror (13-21, 3-9 CC) took the opener 1-0 before the
Red Devils (15-16, 8-6 CC) came back to score four runs in the
first two innings of game two for a 4-1 win.
In a pitchers' duel, game one featured just six combined
hits. The lone run of the game came in the top of the fifth
inning.
Leigh Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North
[N.J.]) reached on a two-out error before scoring on a
Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) double to
the gap in left-center.
In game two, Mary Kate Flannery led off with a
single before an Erin King double put runners at
second and third.
An Alesha Sisco RBI groundout plated Flannery
before Kyrie Budnik dropped a two-out single into
left to score King for a 2-0 advantage.
Ari Coulter led off the second with a single
before Madison Gerish reached on a bunt
single.
Jess Haklar's sacrifice moved the runners
to second and third before a Flannery bunt single plated
Coulter.
Sisco followed with a two-out, bases-loaded single down the
left-field line for a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Lauren Fusco (Laurel, Md./St.
Vincent Pallotti) led off with a single.
A Warrenfeltz double put runners at second and third for
Samantha Staub (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore), who
singled to score Fusco.
After pinch-runner Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms
River North [N.J.]) stole second, Lauren Toomey
(Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) drew a walk to load the
bases with no outs but Allison Jordan worked out
the jam, allowing just two singles the rest of the way for the
win.
Jordan struck out five in the win.
Warrenfeltz fanned six batters in 11 2/3 innings of work.
The Green Terror returns to action in a doubleheader at Franklin
& Marshall on Thursday. The first game of the twinbill begins
at 3:30 p.m.
