SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Kathryn Riley threw a
no-hitter in game two to key Swarthmore's doubleheader sweep
of McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on
Sunday.
The Garnet (15-22, 5-11 CC) took the opener 8-0 in six innings
behind a three-hit, 11-strikeout shutout from Alexandra
Zelaski before Riley held the Green Terror (13-22, 3-13
CC) hitless for the third time this season in a 4-1 victory in game
two.
Michele Perch keyed the offense with five
hits.
Four first-inning singles, including a two-run knock from Perch,
staked Swarthmore to an early 4-0 lead.
A Riley double coupled with three singles and an error stretched
the lead to 6-0 in the third before single runs in the fourth and
sixth set the final margin.
A Lauren Walker sacrifice fly and Riley RBI single
staked the Garnet to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning
of game two.
A walk, stolen base, error and fielder's choice sliced the
deficit in half in the visitor fourth but an RBI double from Perch
and run-scoring single from Kira Kern in the
bottom of the frame pushed the lead to 4-1.
