WESTMINSTER, Md. – Erinne Warrenfeltz's
(Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) sixth-inning solo home run
was the difference in the nightcap, helping McDaniel forge a
doubleheader split with Hood in non-conference softball action on
Thursday.
The Blazers (12-24) took the opener 3-1 before the Green Terror
(13-18) made Warrenfeltz's lone run stand up in a
Kelly Toms (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown)
two-hit shutout.
Toms allowed just three base runners in her first win of the
season.
With only four base runners through 5 2/3 innings, Warrenfeltz sent
the first pitch she saw over the 205 sign in left-center for her
third roundtripper of the year.
In the opener, McDaniel retired the first six batters before
Jess Krietz lined a single up the middle to lead
off the third inning.
Emalie Stroup drew a walk to put runners at first
and second before a Sam Smith sacrifice moved each
runner up a base.
Katherine Law followed with a single to left field
to stake Hood to a 2-0 lead.
A Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) single just
inside the third-base bag, wild pitch and Lauren Wildasin
(Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) sacrifice fly trimmed the deficit
in half in the bottom of the inning.
Singles from Law and Bridgette Ringley in the top
of the seventh set the final margin.
Ringley, who pitched both halves of the doubleheader, scattered
five hits to pick up her seventh win of the season in game
one.
The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg on Saturday. The
first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
