WESTMINSTER, Md. – Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg,
Md./Middletown) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run
scored in the opener to lead McDaniel to a split with Washington
(Md.) in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Wednesday.
The Green Terror (12-17, 3-9 CC) took a 4-2 victory in game one to
snap its 10-game skid before the Shorewomen (13-19-1, 4-11-1 CC)
scored six runs in the first two innings of game two to forge the
split.
Leigh Carbutt paced Washington with four hits in
the twinbill.
Brittany Jarboe (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) led
off the home first with a double to right field before
Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) beat out
her sacrifice attempt to put runners at the corners.
After Wildasin stole second, Warrenfeltz drove a ball up the middle
to plate Jarboe and put runners back at the coners.
Lauren Toomey (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area)
followed a Warrenfeltz stolen base with a single through the right
side to stretch the lead to 2-0.
A Tori Ripple solo home run with two outs in the
fourth sliced the lead in half but a Kelli Workmeister
(Baltimore, Md./Catholic) single and two throwing errors
in the bottom of the frame stretched the lead to 3-1.
Warrenfeltz led off the McDaniel fifth a solo shot of her own
pushed the lead to 4-1.
In the top of the sixth, three singles and a Shannon
Stocklin sacrifice fly scored one run before a rundown
ended the frame.
In game two, Gabby Devaud, Ripple and
Sally Snover put together three straight two-out
singles for a 1-0 Shorewomen lead.
A wild pitch around back-to-back walks in a steady sideways rain
stretched the lead to 2-0 before an 18-minute rain delay halted
action after a half-inning.
In the top of the second, Jes Van Gosen poked a
two-out single over the first-base bag. A pair of miscues coupled
with two singles and a Margaret Rohde double
accounted for four unearned runs, pushing the lead to
6-0.
A Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) single
and Samantha Staub (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) home
run finished the scoring in the bottom of the inning.
Ripple added four hits for Washington.
Christina Morley (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop
Wood) struck out four in the game-one win before pitching
5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in game two with one strikeout.
She added a 2-for-2 performance at the plate in the nightcap
– her first two hits of the season.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Hood on
Thursday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3:30
p.m.
