NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - The McDaniel College women's lacrosse team was honored by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as an Academic Honor Squad while six student-athletes were named to the Academic Honor Roll.
To qualify as an IWLCA Academic Squad, a team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team grade-point average (GPA) for the academic year.
McDaniel has earned the honor for 12 consecutive years dating back to 2014. An Academic Honor Squad was not recognized in 2020 because of COVID. The team has been honored 16 times in the 17-year history of the award which was first given out in 2009.
Seniors
Caleigh Kohr,
Bellina Sargo,
Kat Thayer, and
Addison Utterback as well as juniors
Emily Conklin and
Alexa Dobbs were each named to the to the Academic Honor Roll which recognizes junior, senior or graduate students who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Kohr was honored for the second-straight year. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a 3.735 GPA. A three-time Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection, she was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. She appeared in 16 games in goal this season while making 14 starts and totaling 78 saves and 20 ground balls. She finished her career ranked eighth on the program's career saves list with 350 in 64 games.
Sargo received her first IWLCA honor and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and a 3.530 GPA. A three-time Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection, she appeared in all 17 games on defensive while making 15 starts and totaling nine ground balls and nine caused turnovers.
Thayer was also honored for the second-straight year. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration major with a 3.720 GPA. A three-time Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection, she was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. She earned her second All-Centennial Conference Second Team selection this season and was named to the USA Lacrosse Division III All-America Honorable Mention Team after leading the team with 36 goals, 20 assists, 56 points, 57 ground balls, and 60 draw controls. Her 26 caused turnovers were the seventh-most in a single-season in program history and her 57 ground balls were the third-most.
Utterback received her second consecutive IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selection as well. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Marketing and a 3.613 GPA. A three-time Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection, she started all 17 of the team's games this season and ranked second on the team with 30 goals, 19 assists, and 49 points, all career highs. She also totaled a career-high 24 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
Conklin is a Business Administration major with a 3.968 GPA. A two-time Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection, she was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. She totaled 17 goals, 25 points, 43 ground balls, 31 caused turnovers, and 58 draw controls this season, all career highs. She led the team in caused turnovers while ranking fourth in goals, third in points, second in ground balls, and second in draw controls. Her 31 caused turnovers were the second-most in program history, just one shy of the record.
Dobbs is a Communications major with a 3.931 GPA. A two-time Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection, she appeared in all 17 games on defensive while making 15 starts and totaling 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
