WESTMINSTER, Md. - On Wednesday, the McDaniel College women's basketball team leaves for an international trip where it will spend nine days in Portugal and France with stops in Lisbon, Normandy, Paris, Sintra, and Cascais.
The Green Terror will participate in two games and take part in spectacular sightseeing activities. The team arrives in Lisbon on Thursday before making its way to Paris and Bayeux in northwestern France known for its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and the towering, Norman-Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame.
On Friday, the team will get a World War II tour at Point du Hoc, the location of a series of German bunkers and machine gun posts, as well as Omaha Beach, the famous 5-mile stretch of the Normandy coast in France where Allied forces launched a pivotal and fiercely contested amphibious assault on June 6, 1944, known as D-Day.
After a tour of the Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey on Saturday, the Green Terror will arrive in Paris on Sunday and visit The Louvre, a former royal palace and national art museum known for its collection of celebrated paintings, including Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa.
On Monday, the team will visit the Eiffel Tower before playing in their first game later that night.
The team will then have a free day in Paris on Tuesday and visit the Champs-Élysées, Paris's most famous and iconic 1.2-mile boulevard, stretching from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe.
The Green Terror return to Portugal for a tour of Lisbon on Wednesday before visiting Sintra and the National Palace of Pena on Thursday. That night, the team will play its second game.
On Friday, the team will spend its final day biking up the coast to Guincho Beach, famous for its dramatic dunes and reliable northwest swells that make it a premier destination surfing and windsurfing.
Throughout its nine-day trip, the team will be providing insights through a blog on the athletics website as well as updates through the McDaniel College Athletics and women's basketball Instagram accounts.
