McKenna Headlines Program Record Seven All-Conference Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. - Seven members of the McDaniel College baseball team received All-Centennial Conference honors on Thursday, including freshman Shea McKenna who was named Rookie of the Year.

The seven all-conference selections for the Green Terror are a program record and the most since they also had seven in 1962 as a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference.

McKenna is the team's second Rookie of the Year selection in the last three seasons as junior Shane Daly was also honored in 2022.

Meanwhile, the coaching staff, led by head coach Jim Carone and assistant coaches Trey Martinez, Brian Culley and Jack Bayne, were selected by their peers as the Coaching Staff of the Year. It is the first time McDaniel has been selected.

Graduate student Ryan Martino and freshman Ethan Haddock were named to the first team while Daly and graduate student Joey Hubinger were selected to the second team. McKenna and sophomores Tyson Nercessian and Ben Davis were named honorable mention.

Martino received his first all-conference selection and is the first Green Terror pitcher to be named to the first team since Zach Kronick was named Pitcher of the Year in 2016. Martino led the team in wins, earned run average and strikeouts, posting a 5-1 record with a 2.15 ERA and 48 strikeouts. He also leads Centennial Conference in ERA and has the third-most wins.

Haddock is the second McDaniel freshman in the history of the conference to earn first team honors. Daly also did so in 2022. Haddock led the team and ranks third in the Centennial Conference with a .416 batting average. His 62 hits were tied for the league lead and were the second-most in team history. He began his career with a 15-game hit streak and led the team with 20-multiple hit games this season.

Hubinger earned his third All-Centennial Conference selection after receiving first team honors in 2021 and honorable mention in 2022. He is fourth player in team history to earn three all-conference selections. He was one of two players to start all 38 of the team's games while hitting .333 with a conference-high 44 walks. He also finished his career a school-record 42 doubles and third with 106 RBIs.

Daly was honored for the second time after being named Rookie of the Year and a first team selection in 2022. He hit .342 with 15 doubles, a mark that ranks second in the conference. He also set a new single-season school record with 25 stolen bases, the second-most in the conference. He also had a team-best 16-game hit streak from March 8 to April 6 and had a 22-game reached base streak.

Nercessian received his first all-conference selection after posting a 3-0 record with a 2.63 ERA in 41.0 innings pitched and 39 strikeouts. He led the Centennial Conference with 12 games started while opponents hit just .222 against him.

Davis earned his second consecutive honorable mention selection after hitting .358, including a team-best .435 in Centennial Conference contests. He also led the team with a .620 slugging percentage, including a team-high three triples and six home runs, and ranked second with a .472 on-base percentage and 26 walks.

McKenna led all conference freshman with a .375 batting average, 54 hits, and 43 RBIs. His 54 hits are the second-most by a freshman in team history behind Daly who tied the school record with 67 in 2022. He and Hubinger were the only two players to start all 38 of the team's games.
