THE SKINNY
Gettysburg scored the final three runs to capture a back-and-forth affair at McDaniel, 8-6.
THE LEADERS
• Jack Bayne (Lutherville, Md./Towson) led the Green Terror with a 4-for-4 day that included a solo home run.
• Shane Daly (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) added three hits and two runs scored.
• Jake Smith (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) was also 3-for-5, adding two RBIs.
FOR THE FOES
• JR McCloskey went 3-for-4 to lead the Bullets.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Shane Daly led off the bottom of the first with a single to left before scoring on a one-out Tyler Yohn (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) double. Austin Goudeaux (Elkton, Md./Bohemia Manor) followed with a single to score Yohn before Jake Smith made it 3-0 with a double to the gap.
• After not having a baserunner in the first two innings, Mark Seibert and Preston Toothman led off the top of the third with back-to-back singles in the gap. After JR McCloskey was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Kyle Miller doubled to cut the deficit to 3-2. A Matt Muir RBI single tied the game and put runners at the corners with still nobody out. An error on a bunt attempt and throwing error after a pitching change gave Gettysburg a 4-3 edge. Jack Pistner followed with a sacrifice fly for a 5-3 advantage before a single and the first of four Green Terror double plays kept it a two-run game.
• Yohn singled to start the bottom of the inning before moving to second on a groundout and scoring on a Smith single through the right side.
• Jack Bayne led off the fourth with a home run to tie the game before Daly followed with a double to left-center. After a wild pitch moved Daly to third, he was able to score on a balk for a 6-5 edge.
• Pistner drew a walk to lead off the seventh before a throwing error put runners at the corners. McDaniel got a double play but Pistner scored to tie the game.
• Miller drew a walk to lead off the visitor eighth before an error on the ensuing sacrifice attempt and a successful sacrifice put runners at second and third with just one out. An intentional walk loaded the bases before Pistner drove a single through the right side that scored two runs.
• McDaniel had the tying runs on base in both the eighth and ninth but could not push them across.
THE INSIDE STORY
• The four hits for Jack Bayne were a career high. His fourth-inning home run was also the first of his collegiate career.
• Tyler Yohn and Austin Goudeaux added two hits each as part of a 14-hit after for the Green Terror. Gettysburg finished with 12 base hits.
