THE SKINNY
McDaniel's defense held Hood to just one goal in a 40-minute, 28-second span while turning a 3-2 deficit into a 10-4 lead early in the fourth quarter en route to a 13-6 victory.
THE LEADERS
• Emma Miller (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) led the Green with four goals and three caused turnovers on the night.
• Emma Legacy (Deale, Md./St. Mary's) recorded her second straight hat trick.
• Lara Jensen (West Chester, Pa./The Tatnall School) finished with two goals and a caeer-high seven ground balls.
FOR THE FOES
• Laura Skorobatsch and Jess Lyons led the Blazers with two goals apiece.
• Sophia Vilaca withstood a barrage of shots in cage, making 21 saves on the night.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• McDaniel opened the scoring when Emma Legacy found a cutting Kealey Allison (Frankford, Del./Indian River) just over three minutes into the game. Hood responded with back-to-back goals on a Laura Skorobatsch free-position tally and Jess Lyons unassisted tally for a 2-1 lead with 8:17 to play in the first quarter. Nearly a minute later, Natalie Hoff (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) found Emma Miller to even the score. Lyons scored again for a 3-2 edge with 5:41 on the clock before Hoff finished a solo run. Emily Sheppard (Queenstown, Md./Queen Anne's County) broke the deadlock off an Allison feed with 1:17 remaining.
• The second quarter a defensive struggle for much of the period. Miller finally broke through with 2:50 remaining, finishing a pass from Mary Kate Clothier (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross Academy) for the only goal of the quarter.
• Lara Jensen and Legacy each scored unassisted tallies a minute apart to push the lead to 7-3 with 10:35 on the third-quarter clock. Mackenzi Wright broke a more than 28-minute scoring drought with an unassisted goal of her own. Jensen added a second in the period before Miller closed out the quarter with the team's lone free-position conversion.
• Another Miller goal early in the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 10-4 before Skorobatsch recorded her second of the night with 10:13 to play. Katie Baur (Elkridge, Md./Howard) found the back of the net for her first collegiate pint with 9:24 remaining before Abby Burnette responded a minute later. Two more Legacy goals in the final 3:08 set the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• McDaniel finished the night with a commanding 46-15 advantage in shots.
• The Green Terror defense combined for 17 caused turnovers, inclduing three from Emma Legacy to match Emma Miller.
• Acadia Noll (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) puld down five draw controls.
