THE SKINNY
McDaniel scored early in both games to key a doubleheader sweep of Keene State at the Ripken Spring Break Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Green Terror won the opener 21-6 before completing the sweep, 13-5.
THE LEADERS
• Austin Goudeaux (Elkton, Md./Bohemia Manor) led the Green Terror with five total hits in the doubleheader, adding six RBIs and four runs scored.
• Tyler Yohn (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) added five hits of his own with four RBIs and four runs scored.
FOR THE FOES
• Joe Barter led the Owls with four hits.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one, Austin Goudeaux drew a walk to lead off the second before being erased on a fielder's choice. A Jake Smith (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) double scored Billy Wheatley (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) for a 1-0 lead. After an error, a two-out Evan Scala (Whiting, N.J./Manchester Twp.) double made it 3-0. Shane Daly (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) was hit by a pitch to extend the inning for Joey Hubinger (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), who singled home Scala for a four-run inning.
• A Brendan Easton triple, Nathaniel Hudson double, and Mike Collins one-out single cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame.
• Three walks helped make it 5-2 in the third before a two-run Hudson double in the bottom of the inning made it a 5-4 game.
• With one out in the fourth, Tyler Yohn singled to start of a string of six straight hits, including a two-run Connor Uhrig (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) single to stretch the lead to 9-2.
• Two errors to go with five hits accounted for a six-run fifth. Goudeaux had a two-run triple and Scala contributed a two-run single to key the frame.
• Back-to-back two-out walks and a Collins single made it a 15-3 game in the bottom of the inning.
• After one-out singles from Goudeaux, Wheatly, and Smith, Uhrig tripled to clear the bases and scored on a Jack Bayne (Lutherville, Md./Towson) RBI groundout.
• An error and three-straight singles got Keene State a single run in the sixth before Daly was hit by a pitch and scored on a Yohn triple. Yohn then scored on a passed ball for the final margin.
• In game two, a two-out, three-run home run from Easton staked the Owls to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
• McDaniel, however, responded with eight in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Yohn, Smith, and Connor Ward (Woolwich, N.J./Kingsway Regional) all had RBI doubles in the inning.
• McGuire tripled with one out in the third before scoring on a Ward single to start a three-run inning to make it 11-3.
• Yohn and Goudeaux had back-to-back one-out RBI singles to make it 15-3 in the fifth.
• Trent Mayer doubled to help Keene State score twice in the seventh for the final score.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Jake Smith had four hits, four runs, and three RBIs while Tyler Yohn and Austin Goudeaux had three hits each in game one. Connor Uhrig and Evan Scala each had a career-high five RBIs. Uhrig did it with three hits while Scala had two knocks.
• Shane Daly, Joey Hubinger, Yohn, Goudeaux, T.J. McGuire, and Connor Ward all had two hits in the nightcap.
• Jack Valentine (Hockenssin, Del./Sanford School) struck out six batters in three innings in game two.
