THE SKINNY
McDaniel rapped out 36 total hits, including 12 extra-base hits, and exploded for 38 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Albright. The Green Terror took the opener 13-6 before completing the sweep, 25-6.
THE LEADERS
• Shane Daly (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) led the Green Terror with seven hits, including a double and two triples. He also had six RBIs and scored seven runs.
• Joey Hubinger (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) went 4-for-6 with a double and triple but drew five walks and was hit by a pitch. He also had five RBIs and scored four runs.
FOR THE FOES
• Nick Sklenarik had five hits and five RBIs, including a four-hit game two, to lead the Lions.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one, Jake Smith (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) and Joey Hubinger drew back-to-back one out walks in the bottom of the first. After Tyler Yohn (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Billy Wheatley (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) drew a walk to force in Smith with the game's first run. An Austin Goudeaux (Elkton, Md./Bohemia Manor) sacrifice fly scored Hubinger for a 2-0 lead.
• Albright cut the deficit in half in the top of the second with a Dylan Harris leadoff double and Chris Thomas RBI single.
• Singles from Connor Uhrig (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and Smith around a Shane Daly triple pushed the McDaniel lead to 4-1 in the home second.
• With one out in the third, T.J. McGuire (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) and Uhrig singled before Jack Valentine (Hockessin, Del./Sanford School) drew a walk. A Daly single and Hubinger triple pushed the lead to 8-1.
• The Green Terror tacked on three more runs in the fourth before the Lions got one back on an Eddie Meredith RBI single in the top of the fifth.
• A Uhrig double, Daly triple, and Smith sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 13-2 after six innings.
• Four walks, a throwing error, two-run Nick Sklenarik single made it a 13-5 game with two outs in the seventh. With runners at the corners, Josh Halye singled to left to score Meredith but Albright made the final out at third base.
• Daly opened the nightcap with a single up the middle before Smith was hit by a pitch. Hubinger singled home Daly before a Yohn sacrifice fly scored Smith for a 2-0 lead.
• Dominic Borrelli was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the third before a Roman Berretta double and wild pitch made it a 2-1 game. Meredith singled home Berretta with one out before a Will Algard sacrifice fly gave Albright a 3-2 edge.
• With two outs in the top of the fourth, Daly doubled to the gap. Smith drew a walk and Hubinger was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Yohn followed with a single to the gap to score two for a 4-3 lead. After a pitching change, Wheatley singled home Hubinger for a 5-3 advantage.
• With the bases loaded and one out in the sixth, McGuire doubled to right to clear the bases before scoring on a wild pitch for a 9-3 lead
• Eight base hits, including doubles from Connor Ward (Woolwich, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Smith, helped McDaniel plate seven in the seventh to stretch the advantage to 16-3.
• A Sklenarik two-out single scored Berretta in the home half of the frame.
• Evan Scala (Whiting, N.J./Manchester Twp.) tripled to lead off the eighth, sparking a three-run frame to make it 19-4.
• Yohn opened the ninth with the Green Terror's fifth triple of the day, igniting a six-run inning to make it 25-4.
• Two walks and a two-out Skelenarik double set the final score in the bottom of the ninth.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Shane Daly had four hits in game one while Connor Uhrig went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. T.J. McGuire had two knocks.
• Ryan Martino (Brooklyn, N.Y./Millennium Brooklyn) went 5.0 innings in game one on the mound with three strikeouts to pick up the win.
• Yohn had five hits in the nightcap – the most by a Green Terror player since Marty Windisch had five knocks against Ursinus on Apr. 30, 2016. Daly, Smith, and Hubinger had three knocks each while Wheatley, Scala, McGuire, and Ward all had two.
• Hunter Darke (Cumming, Ga./Forsyth Central) picked up his first collegiate win on the mound with 4.0 innings in relief, striking out two. Matt Speakman (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) fanned four in 2.0 innings.
