THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel got a strong pitching performance to earn a 3-2 game-one victory before Gettysburg broke out the bats to earn a split 10-4 in game two.
THE LEADERS
• Nate O'Brochta (Hornell, N.Y./Avoca) led the Green Terror in the opener with a seven-inning complete game on the mound, striking out five and scattering six hits.
• Joey Hubinger (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) led the offense in the twinbill with four hits on the day, going 2-for-2 with a walk in game one before recording another two hits in game two.
FOR THE FOES
• Andrew Decker led the Bullets with a 3-for-3 nightcap, drawing a pair of walks.
• Collin Short had two hits in each game.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• With one out in the bottom of the first, Joey Hubinger dropped a single into left field before Billy Wheatley (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) followed with a single of his own. A Connor Uhrig (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) doubled to right field to score Hubinger and stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead. A T.J. McGuire (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) sacrifice fly to shallow center plated Wheatley to double the lead.
• Andrew Decker poked a two-out single to left field in the third inning before scoring on a Collin Short double one batter later to cut the deficit to 2-1.
• Uhrig was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the frame before scoring on a McGuire single that got to deep right field to push the lead back to two.
• Shane Manieri and Matt Szczesny each poked ground balls through the infield with one out in the sixth before a hit batter loaded the bases. A grondball out allowed Manieri to score and cut the deficit to one again but Nate O'Brochta got a strikeout to preserve the lead and then pitched around two baserunners in the seventh for the win.
• In game two, Decker led off the game with a single to the left-center gap before a walk and Short double staked the Bullets to a 1-0 lead before an out was recorded. A one-out Szczesny sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 2-0.
• Decker started the third with a double before scoring on an Andrew Donlan single to right. After Donlan stole second, he was able to score on a Szczeny single through the left side with one out for a 4-0 lead.
• Tristan Neels singled to lead off the fourth before moving to second on a balk. After interference was called on a sacrifice attempt, Decker singled home Neels. With two outs, Short singled to plate Decker before Manieri blasted a home run just inside the right-field foul pole to make it an 8-0 game.
• After a Uhrig infield single, walk and hit batter loaded the bases with two outs, Julian Jenkins (Tempe, Ariz./Desert Vista) drew a walk to force in Uhrig before Tyler Yohn (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and Hubinger roped back-to-back knocks and make it an 8-4 game.
• Back-to-back two-out walks and a two-run Donlan single in the fifth set the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• The doubleheader was moved up a day to Friday after the threat of late-afternoon rain on Saturday, resulting in the twinbill becoming two 7-inning contests.
