THE SKINNY STORY
A first-inning grand slam lifted McDaniel to an early game-one lead before the Green Terror held on for an 8-7 game-one win. Muhlenberg responded, however, with an eighth-inning, two-out rally to salvage the split, 6-5.
THE LEADERS
• T.J. McGuire (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) led the Green Terror with five hits on the day, recording multiple hits in both games.
• Connor Uhrig (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) added three hits with two home runs that included the first-inning grand slam.
FOR THE FOES
• Justin Kimmel led the Mules with three hits and three RBIs.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one, Tyler Yohn (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) singled up the middle to lead off the game. A Joey Hubinger (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) double put runners at second and three before Billy Wheatley (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) walked to load the bases. After a strikeout, a throwing error at the plate allowed Yohn to score for a 1-0 lead. T.J. McGuire drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a second run before Uhrig went yard to straightaway center field to cap a six-run first inning.
• A fielding error allowed Trevor Virno to reach to lead off the third. After a wild pitch, balk, and hit batter put runners at the corners, Jack Kent singled to left to get Muhlenberg on the scoreboard.
• Evan Spano doubled with one out in the fifth before a walk put two on. With two outs, Robert Cappadora doubled home both runners before a hit batter and walk loaded the bases. Cappadora scored on a fielding error that would have ended the inning to cut the deficit to 6-4.
• Jack Valentine (Hockessin, Del./Sanford) singled to lead off the eighth before later scoring on a Wheatley ground ball.
• Virno singled with one out in the eighth and used a balk, stolen base, and wild pitch to score.
• A Julian Jenkins (Tempe, Ariz./Desert Vista) sacrifice fly plated McGuire to stretch the lead to 8-5 in the top of the ninth.
• Kent reached on an infield single to start the home ninth before a strikeout. Justin Kimmel then went deep to left-center to draw the hosts within one but Matt Mondrone (Bronxville, N.Y./Tuckahoe) got his third strikeout and a flyout to pick up the win in relief.
• In game two, Yohn singled to lead off the game before a Hubinger double put two on. A Wheatley sacrifice fly and McGuire two-out single staked McDaniel to a 2-0 lead.
• Kimmel led off the home second with a home run before a Danny Monzo double, walk and one-out Virno single up the middle tied the game.
• A Kimmel walk with two outs and Monzo double gave Muhlenberg a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third.
• Jonathan Toth doubled to lead of the fifth before taking third on a wild pitch and scoring on a Cappadora sacrifice fly for a 4-2 edge.
• Wheatley singled to start the eighth before Uhrig went yard for the second time in the two games, tying the game at 4-all. A McGuire infield single and fielding error put runners at the corners with two outs before McGuire was able to steal home on a first-third play for a 5-4 edge.
• Skyler Petrie singled to right field with one out in the eighth before a passed ball on a strikeout with two outs prolonged the inning. A hit batter and pair of walks forced in the tying and go-ahead runs.
