THE SKINNY
McDaniel outscored Bryn Mawr 23-2 in the second quarter to open up a 40-11 halftime lead en route to a 77-29 victory in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.
THE LEADERS
• Josey Klingenberg (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) led the Green Terror with a season-best 11 points. She also handed out a career-best eight assists to go with five rebounds and four steals.
• Katie Klein (Port Charlotte, Fla./Imagine School at North Point) reached double figures for the second straight game with 16 points, including hitting three of her four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
FOR THE FOES
• Jessica Smith, who entered the game averaging 26.0 points per game, led the Owls with nine points.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• After Josey Klingenberg and Jessica Smith traded baskets early, Ellie Glass (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) hit a layup off a Klingenberg steal to spark a quick 6-1 burst over a two-minute span that built an 8-3 advantage with 5:58 showing. After a Zoe Boxill layup, Mallory Conroy (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) connected in transition to start another 11-2 stretch to give the hosts a 10-point lead with 1:13 to play. Sydney Collins hit a layup in the waning seconds of the quarter to make it 17-9 game.
• McDaniel, however, scored the first 20 points of the second quarter, holding Bryn Mawr to just a single Smith jumper in the final 30 seconds of the period. Liliana Overcash (Bend, Ore./Mountain View) hit a wing trey just as the first half expired to stretch the lead to 40-11 at the half.
• The Owls went the first 7:08 of the third quarter without a field goal while the Green Terror opened up a 60-14 lead en route to a 64-24 advantage entering the fourth quarter.
• An Ellie Connelly (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) layup off a Klingenberg steal and dish in the first 30 seconds of the final period were the only two points until Katie Klein hit the first of her three straight 3-pointers with 6:06 to play, accounting for a personal 9-2 run that stretched the lead to 49 en route to the 48-point final margin of victory.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Mallory Conroy finished with 11 points, four rebounds, and five steals.
• McDaniel shot 46.4 percent for the game, connecting on 32 of 69 field-goal attempts while Bryn Mawr was just 8-for-37 from the floor.
• The Green Terror dished out 28 assists on the 32 made field goals for its most team assists since handing out 29 at Goucher on Dec. 6, 2017.
