THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth to extend a one-run edge into a five-run lead and complete a weekend sweep of CCNY, 8-3.
THE LEADERS
• Julian Jenkins (Tempe, Ariz./Desert Vista) was on base in all five plate appearances for the Green Terror, recording two hits and three walks. He also scored two runs and stole two bases.
• Jarod Pezzano (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
• Nathan O'Brochta (Hornell, N.Y./Avoca) allowed six hits and fanned five in five innings of work to pick up the win.
FOR THE FOES
• Alex Erwin led the Beavers with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.
• Stephen Peters had two hits, including a home run to make it a 4-3 game in the eighth.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• With one out in the top of the first, Sean Riera poked a single through the left side before Stephen Peters doubled to the gap to put runners at second and third. A two-out Josh Moreno single off the first-base bag staked CCNY to a 2-0 lead.
• Julian Jenkins led off the third with a single before scoring on an Isaiah Ishmail (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) triple to the gap. A T.J. McGuire (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) RBI groundout knotted the game at 2-all.
• Jack Slater (Hebron, Conn./Rham) led off the fourth with a double before a Joey Hubinger (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) single put runners at the corners. A Jarod Pezzano sacrifice fly gave McDaniel a 3-2 edge before a Jenkins walk and Ishmail hit by pitch loaded the bases. McGuire followed with a second sacrifice fly in the frame for a 4-2 lead.
• Peters led off the eighth inning with a home run just inside the right-field foul pole to cut the margin to one. Alex Erwin doubled with two outs, forcing a pitching change to Jordan Rhodes (Fawn Grove, Pa./McDonogh [Md.]), who fanned pinch-hitter John Creegan on three pitches to keep it a 4-3 game.
• Hubinger drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the inning then stole second. After a Pezzano single to the gap scored Hubinger, Jenkins singled through the left side then took second on a throw home to hold the runner, putting two in scoring position. Ishmail was hit by a pitch to load the bases before a throwing error scored two runs and a Colin Franke (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall Central) sacrifice fly capped the four-run frame.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Jordan Rhodes picked up his fourth save of the season, retiring all four batters he faced.
