THE SKINNY STORY
Mary Washington, ranked 14th in the latest IWLCA Div. III coaches poll, scored 10 straight goals that included the first nine of the second half to break open a 4-3 lead en route to an 18-6 victory at McDaniel.
THE LEADERS
• Tori Arcilesi (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) led the Green Terror with two goals and an assist. She also had four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
• Kealey Allison (Frankford, Del./Indian River) added a goal and five draw controls.
FOR THE FOES
• Paige Haskins led the Eagles with six goals and an assist.
• Morgan Shorts added five goals and two assists.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Rebecca Pullen opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 24:46 mark before Tori Arcilesi answered nearly three minutes later with a free-position tally. Paige Haskins and Morgan Shorts each netted their first goals of the game on 8-meter shots 37 seconds apart for a 3-1 lead before 10 minutes had elapsed. Kayla Sarazin stretched the lead to 4-1 with 14:08 to play in the opening half before Arcilesi powered through the defense to tally her second at the 8:29 mark. An Emily Sheppard (Queenstown, Md./Queen Anne's County) free-position goal made it 4-3 with 3:39 remaining in the opening half before Pullen finished a solo run from a tough angle with 1:43 showing to make it 5-3 at the break.
• Two Haskins goals around one from Shorts in the first 2:37 of the second half pushed the lead to 8-3 before Pullen capped a run of four unassisted goals in a 2-minute, 11-second stretch. Samantha Stachowiak found Tess Siburn for the first assisted goal of the day with 25:39 on the clock. Shorts and Haskins made it an 12-3 game with 20:26 remaining. Sarazin and Haskins scored 38 seconds part to cap the 10-goal run and stretch the advantage to 14-3 with 18:52 on the clock. Mary Kate Clothier (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross Academy) converted a free-position goal to halt the scoring drought with 12:45 on the clock before Kealey Allison finished a feed from Arcilesi with 11:06 showing. Shorts and Sheppard traded goals before three Eagle goals from three different players in the final 6:30 set the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Mary Washington finished with a 29-17 advantage in shots.
• The teams combined for 37 turnovers in the game, including 27 in the first half.
