THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 3-all deadlock and top New Jersey City, 7-4.
THE LEADERS
• Freshman Nathan O'Brochta (Hornell, N.Y./Avoca) pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief, allowing five hits and one run with six strikeouts and no walks to pick up the win in his collegiate debut.
• Joey Hubinger (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) led the offense with a 3-for-5 day and three doubles.
FOR THE FOES
• Ricky Voss led the Gothic Knights with two hits and three RBIs, including a first-inning home run.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• With one out in the first, Bill Feehan reached on an error before Ricky Voss took a full-pitch count out to right field for a 2-0 lead.
• Julian Jenkins (Tempe, Ariz./Desert Vista) led off the bottom of the inning with a double to the gap before taking third on a flyout and scoring on a Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen School) single off the pitcher's foot to tie the game.
• Joey Hubinger doubled to lead off the second before Tom Daly (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) was hit by a pitch. An error with one out loaded the bases before Will Strauss (Freeport, N.Y./Waldorf) drew a two-out walk to force in Hubinger and tie the game. On what appeared to be a flyout, New Jersey City starting pitcher Paul Tannucilli was called for a balk, allowing Daly to score from third for a 3-2 lead.
• With two outs in the fourth, Dan McLaughlin was hit by a pitch before moving to second on a balk and scoring on a Paul Franceschini single to center and tying the game.
• Jack Slater (Hebron, Conn./Rham) and T.J. McGuire (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) led off the home fifth with back-to-back singles. After Slater took third on a flyout to right, he was able to score on a Daly sacrifice fly for a 4-3 edge. After a discussion that ultimately overturned a foul ball call, Kyle Petak (Manassas Park, Va./Manassas Park) was deemed to have been hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with two outs. Isaiah Ismail (Cherry Hill, N.J.) followed with a single inside the left-field line to score McGuire. After a pitching change, Jenkins laced a single back up the middle to score Petak for a 6-3 lead.
• Tyler Spingett led off the top of the seventh with an infield single before stealing second and taking third on a groundout. Voss followed with a single to shallow left to make it a 6-4 game.
• Hunbinger led off the bottom of the inning with a double to the fence in right before Daly was hit by a pitch for the third time. After a Petak sacrifice, Ishmail lofted a sac fly to right for the final margin.

• Tom Daly threw out three would-be basestealers from behind the plate on the afternoon.
• Jack Slater also had a three-hit day.
