Nelson has three hits in split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – McDaniel scored four runs in the fourth inning of game two to forge a split at Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Saturday.

The Green Terror (9-11, 3-7 CC) captured game two 5-4 after the Mules (11-16, 4-6 CC) won game one, 4-2.

Kasey Nelson (St. Pete's Beach, Fla./St. Michael's [Md.]) led McDaniel with three hits on the day, including a key two-run single in the big inning.

Chris Grillo led Muhlenberg with five hits in the twinbill.

Trailing 4-0 after a pair of hit batters, Stephen Koester two-run single and Jon Capra two-run home run in the bottom of the first, Mike Dunn (Lanham, Md./DeMatha) led off the top of the third with a single.

After a stolen base and throwing error, he was able to score on a Brett Anderson (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) single up the middle.

In the fourth, Tim Griest (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) singled with one out before Colin Franke (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall Central) singled to right, scoring Griest to cut the deficit to 4-2.

After Franke stole second, Dunn singled him home to make it 4-3.

Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Nelson, who singled to right to score Dunn and Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) and turn the one-run deficit into a one-run lead.

Timmy Pilrun did his job after that, facing the minimum the rest of the way but the offense – despite baserunners in five of the next six innings – could not plate the tying run.

Brandon Richmond (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) pitched five innings of relief out of the pen for the win while Robbie Mays (Parkton, Md./Hereford) got the final four outs, including two by strikeouts, for his second save of the year.

Dunn recorded three hits in game two while Nelson had two.

In the opener, Zachary Glover (Westminster, Md./Calvert Hall) led off the second with a double before an error and sacrifice fly staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead.

Singles from Dunn and Rosanova coupled with an Anderson sacrifice bunt and Nelson sacrifice fly doubled the lead in the third.

John Serruto led off the home fourth with a double before a walk and wild pitch put runners at the corners.

A Billy Brittingham singled cut the deficit in half before an error on the ensuing sacrifice attempt and a Capra sacrifice fly tied the game.

A one-out walk and Grillo double put runners at second and third in the home seventh.

After a walk loaded the bases, Serruto and Matt Riebessell recorded back-to-back singles for a 4-3 lead.

Franke led the offense in game one with two hits.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
