Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Lancaster Bible plated three runs in the sixth inning for a 3-2 win over McDaniel in non-conference baseball action on Monday.
Ryan Downes (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) led the Green Terror (0-1) in the season opener, making his collegiate debut with a 2-for-4 showing with one RBI.
Will Welsh led the Chargers (3-5) with a 2-for-3 day at the plate
With both starting pitchers out of the game and it still scoreless, Josh Mayer roped a one-out single to right before he was thrown out trying to steal second.
Welsh and Matt Taylor drew back-to-back two-out walks before an Adam Cohick single through the right side broke up the scoreless affair, scoring Welsh from second.
A JJ Sanchez double stretched the lead to 2-0 before a wild pitch plated Cohick for a 3-0 lead.
Zachary Glover drew a one-out walk in the top of the eighth before an Anotonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) single put runners at first and second.
Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) singled down the left-field line to score Glover and put runners at the corners.
After a pitching change, Downes drove in Rosanova with a single to right with runners still at the corners.
With two outs, the Green Terror had appeared to score the tying run on an errant throw but the call was overturned and the runner at first ruled out to end the threat.
Will Strauss (Freeport, N.Y./Waldorf) and Glover reached on back-to-back two-out singles in the top of the ninth but Trevor High got the groundball he needed to get out of trouble and pick up the save.
Jordan Rhodes (Fawn Grove, Pa./McDonogh [Md.]) pitched four innings of shutout ball with four strikeouts and just three hits to start the season.
Tim Griest (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) added two hits for McDaniel.
The Green Terror returns to action at Gallaudet on Tuesday. Game time is 3 p.m.
