THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel opened up a 17-5 lead after the first quarter and never trailed for a 59-43 victory over Ferrum in the opening game of the 2018 McDaniel Tipoff Classic presented by CareFirst.

THE LEADERS
• Caroline Ward (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) tallied 17 points to lead the Green Terror.
• Renie Tsomos (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air) handed out six assists.
• Anna Mondoro (Dumfries, Va./Homeschool) chipped in 14 points.

FOR THE FOES
• Jacy Marvin tallied eight points to lead the Panthers.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Layups from Caroline Ward and Liv Storer (Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia/Galen Catholic College) staked McDaniel to a 4-0 lead in the game's first 2:11. The lead extended to 13-3 on an Angela DiNunzio (Moorestown, N.J./Paul VI) jumper with 2:46 to play in the quarter. Jessy Nichols cut the deficit to eight on the next possession but Ward hit a pair of layups in the final 1:15 to push the lead to 17-5.
• The advantage stretched to 28-12 midway through the second quarter after Jayce Klingenberg (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and Angela DiNunzio hit jumpers on consecutive possessions. The teams traded baskets through the remainder of the period, ending with a 37-22 haltime lead for the Green Terror.
• The third-quarter lead fluctuated between 12 and 17 points before Anna Mondoro drained a pair of triples around a Jasmine Barr layup to make it a 50-33 game heading to the fourth quarter.
• A Renie Tsomos free throw pushed the lead to 18 just 33 seconds into the final period but then Ferrum went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit in half, holding McDaniel off the scoreboard for nearly five minutes. One Emily Metzger (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) free throw with 4:41 to play pushed the lead back to double digits and sparked an 8-1 close to the contest.

THE INSIDE STORY
• Caroline Ward reached double figures for the third time in three games, tallying a career high with 17 points.
• The six assists were a career best for Renie Tsomos.
• The 59 points scored were a season-low for the Green Terror. The 43 points allowed were also a season-low.
