Boyle wins three times in 2018-opening victory

SALISBURY, Md. – Blair Boyle (Springfield, N.J./Villa Walsh Academy) won three times to open 2018 for McDaniel with a win at Salisbury in non-conference women's swimming action on Saturday.

Scoring:

  • The Green Terror (3-3) defeated the Sea Gulls (2-6) by a score of 129-71. McDaniel recorded the fastest time in all 11 events contested in the short-course meters pool.

Head of the Class: The following athletes won multiple events at the meet:

  • Individually, Blair Boyle won the 200-meter freestyle (2:22.45) and 400-meter freestyle (5:10.86). She was also part of the of the winning 400 meter medley relay (4:52.06).
  • Individually, Cara Dube (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran) won the 200-meter IM (2:43.31). She was also part of the of the winning 400 meter medley relay (4:52.06).
  • Individually, Carly Deickman (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) won the 100-meter breaststroke (1:22.18). She was also part of the of the winning 400 meter medley relay (4:52.06).
  • Individually, Megan Gorsuch won the 100-meter butterfly (1:16.11). She was also part of the of the winning 400 meter medley relay (4:52.06).
  • Sara Hegna (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) won the 50-meter freestyle (28.41 seconds) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:08.11).

Striking Gold: The following athletes won a single event at the meet:

  • Becca Sykes (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) won the 800-meter freestyle (10:36.05).
  • Samantha Smith (Bangkok, Thailand/International School of Bangkok) won the 100-meter freestyle (1:03.93).

Precious Metal: The following athletes finished second or third in an event at the meet:

  • Cara Dube finished second in the 100-meter butterfly (1:18.54).
  • Samantha Smith finished second in the 50-meter freestyle (28.89 seconds).
  • Becca Sykes finished second in the 400-meter freestyle (5:14.54).
  • Joanna Wattenberg (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) finished second in the 200-meter freestyle (2:24.01). She was also third in the 100-meter backstroke (1:13.52).
  • Maddie Gamble (Colora, Md./Rising Sun) finished second in the 100-meter freestyle (1:05.92).
  • Bryn Blanchard (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) finished second in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:22.18).
  • Emma Perdue (Grasonville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) finished third in the 200-meter IM (2:45.10) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:26.66).

From the X-Files: The following athletes turned in the best time of the event while swimming exhibition:

For the Foes: The following Salisbury athletes won events at the meet:

  • The 400-meter free relay of Jordyn Rowe, Ellen Berry, Ali Johnston and Angela Barzanti won with a time of 4:43.41.

Next Up: The Green Terror returns to action at Dickinson on Saturday, Jan. 20. Meet time is 1 p.m.
